As per title - looking to see what ppl have done and how crazy and far you've gone.

Have a Gix 1000 and have gone +3 on rear, which shortened the wheelbase and made it a bit of an animal off the throttle in first 3 gears...but have just bought a CBR600 and looking to get the gearing soughted for a track only bike. Stock is 16 / 45 and i'm thinking of going 14 / 48 - But is that too far ? Anyone gone any further on gearing their street / track bike ??

I have -1 up front on my RR, so 15/43. Its pretty good for the street as it actually pulls in top gear now, and sits about 7k at 120kph. I was going to try 2 up on the rear but now im selling i wont bother.

I have a speedo healer on mine and thats calibrated with 2 different gps to be pretty much spot on, does 118 in first now, and my best guess for top speed would be about 255...

I reckon 14/48 would be a little crazy to be honest, it'd be on the limiter in top before hitting 200. -1+2 seems to be the way to go so 15/45.

If I happen to see you before mine sells you're more than welcome to take mine for a spin with the -1 on front to get an idea of the difference...

Edit - Fixed numbers as standard gearing is actually 16/43 for me!

Thanks for the heads up. I've taken ur advice and bought a -1 + 2 kit(15/47) and i'll see how that goes. I bought some konica minolta fairings for her tonight as well, changed oil, got some Pilot race rubber ready 2 go...lots ore too do, and enjoying every minute of it.

Thanks for the offer of the ride - But i dont ride other ppl's bikes / cars, where possible. Dont get me wrong - I used to believe that my bike was just a bike, and hey - you break it, you fix it, i'm sure i dont need to spell out the code....and that worked well for a number of years. But i've been bitten a couple times of late, bikes coming back from test rides, red hot, or now "smoking", or just hearing them hit the limiter when these's simply no need...hell - there's a new topic in there - "do you let thers ride your bike - have you been burnt ?"

Cant believe ur selling the 6 !?! From all accounts it's a serious kick ass machine...

Um I just changed my post, cause I realised standard gearing is 16/43 not 45, so a 45t rear would be +2 on standard.
Hope that hasnt stuffed up your order!!!

Thats alright mate, I dont mind letting people who know what they're doing ride it! Theres of course plenty of people i wouldnt let start my bike lol.

Yeah its time for a change though, I wanna get a house so it'll be a bit of a downgrade to an 02 ish machine for a while, which will then become a track bike for me when I get another new bike.

That way I get a newy and a track bike sorted easily enough.

Tis all good. Must of gone back to longer gearing for later model CBR6's. As 16/45 was stock for the F4's. So - i'm going to stick with 15/47 and hopefully it's a freakin ANIMAL lol....

off topic but meh - is it recommened to get a dyno tune if you change exhuast? even if its just slip on's?

curious about the above as well, changed from micron to leovince

For just a can it's probably not required, but it wouldn't hurt. Especially if you haven't had a proper tune before. For full systems it's generally required to correct your air/fuel ratios and make the most of the system.

As with any intake/exhaust mod, you'd need a tune to get the most possible out of it, however just slip ons its probably not worth the money for 2hp

Oh yeah the F4s and RRs have different gearing, cause the F4 is a bit taller I think as its the more laid back model as such. -1+2 should liven it up a treat though given how much just the -1 front made to my bike thumbsup.gif

I'm doing a few little mods here and there as well as the gearing. Shorter velocity stacks, opened air filter, gunna just gut and shhut the exhhaust and I've just pulled the main jets out of the carbs and drilled them slightly larger as well, as I don't need to know what it's going to run like under 5k anyways...lol. Should be interesting.
Cheers Si.
Oh and Dyno question on the pipe - pendsa little on what sought of bike your running. A FI bike you'll get away with it a bit bettter than a carbd bike, as FI bikes can compensate to a small degree, as they have sensors all over the shop. You prolly wont lose anything but will only get moderate gains, A carbed bike will still run ok but you'll get a slight hesitation in a couple spots in lower / midrange, but maybe couple more hp up top. A dyno jet kit or PC will get you more power, better throttle response and get most out of your original invest...

I did -1 +2 on my R6 and I thought that was great. Could have done with a +3 or 4, but that would have been track work only

For the Honda, a +5 would be nuts, the -1 +2 or 3 is about as far as you should need to go, cause no corner on a track is slower than 70-80k's and needs 1st gear.

I doubt you'll regret the decision.
