Which bike would be better for a first bike as i am only 173cm tall and wiegh about 50kg...

Wanting something to be a little zippy and still have good handleing.

As i don't weight much i want something i can be able to pick up if/when i drop it.

blacky83
Take them for a test ride. Ergonomics will probably be the biggest factor between them, they're fairly similar otherwise.
As for picking them up, that's assuming you drop it (think positive!). However even a 'light' bike will be hard to pick up if you ain't doing it right, and if you have the right technique you'll be able to pick up most things. Youtube a vid if you want to see.

As i'm not a huge fan of 125's, and i've never ridden one of either, my opinion means little hahaha, but from photo's i'd be led towards the FZR.

How do you see FZR from YZF and CBR lol?

Mate they're pretty much just gonna be the same bike, so pick whichever one you can get the best price on i'd say!

Dirty stinking two strokes are a love hate thing though, you either really want one, or you shouldnt touch them.

One of my mates loves them, I wouldnt piss on them if they were on fire myself.

Much of a muchness really, really depends which you like more!

Personally id go neither and spend 4-5g on a Mint CBR250RR, but thats just me tongue.gif

Lol and they exist?

These brand spanking new 125s would have to close to the power of all the slogged out 250RRs getting around now anyway wouldnt they?
blacky83
Not even close. What are these, like 12hp? A CBR would have to drop at least 2 cylinders to get to that point. Wouldn't say there are many 'mint' ones going around, but there's still a fair few in decent nick.

Well a CBR125R is the grand total of 10hp and top out at 130kph downhill, with a tailwind, slipstreaming behind a semi for a windblock, my 250RR is making 52hp and gets to a tick under 200 easy, allthough its not stock and decently modded, and most are still making 35-45hp. The engines are actually the strongest part of the bike and will do 150,000km easy when looked after.

Finding a mint one is getting harder, but 5g's would buy a mint example with low genuine km's. 4g's would still byu a very nice bike. ts not until u get to the 3g mark where they get to being a bit iffy.

Where the 125R is great is, they are brand new, they are smooth, they are light as anything, they cost nothing to run and they look allright too.

The CBR250RR is a better bike but is getting old now, still there are still plenty of top nick examples getting around.

Oh, lol I thought they'd be a little north of that...
SONVD
They barely do 100kph

Would be better off getting a honda vtr250, will do 110kph comfortably and its a torquey little vtwin

Now you're talking, or torqueing haha.

At least they have some torque, and they dont sound like remote control cars
SONVD
And they go damn well in the twisties, got a mate at work with one that can keep up with the ducati (sometimes smile.gif)

well i like that i have a bike that sounds like a F1 car biggrin.gif

But yes the VTR is a lovely bike, very learner friendly, looks good, goes well, a very solid choice

If you want the best Restricted bike you cant go past the Aprilia RS125. (I'm talking new bikes, not second hand) .. Better brakes, better suspension, better handling, better everything. Also alot bigger price... but still only $10,500 on the road which isnt that much for an Italian bike when you think about it..
bloodzkull
it's a fuckload for a 125cc though, italian or not

Id rather my 2 year old 600 with 6k worth of extras for pretty much the same price...
blacky83
^^ Restricted bikes. There's a shitload of learner tax on bikes like these, way overpriced compared to 600/1000s.

Personally I reckon the best restricted bike is the RVF400. Again really not cheap, but good looks, a bit of go, and good handling.

if the importers would get realistic on the prices they are charging they would sell them like there's no tomorrow. but at 8000+ they are a lot for a bike thats getting old now. at least they would hold there value really well when you want to upgrade in a year

LOL!!!!!!!!! hahahahahahahhahahahahaha
hahah sorry that was rude of me.

A mate just took the baffle off the intake of his cbr125r and that made it SOUND like it had an exhaust, but it still sounded like ass so he chucked it back in.,

CBR125 all the way. Dont dick around with a cbr250rr (yes its true, i have one). Your life will be sooooo much simpler with the cbr125.

EFI, 400kms+ to a tank, low rego, IT HAS A FUEL GAUGE, low power (good for commuter), comfortable tourer style riding position, but can be tricky riding in the wet, besides lets face it theyre pretty sexy for what they are. I always get caught out perving on one without knowing its a 125 ohmy.gif, from the side anyway.

Only thing i dont like about the cbr is the lack of fairings. when i ride my 250 in the wet i hardly get wet, but jump on the 125 and i got saturated sad.gif

too bad this was a 125 comparo

betweent the 125 and the 250rr, the RR is superior in every possible way and if you didnt get one, u need a slap in the face, however out of the 125 bikes, if your buying them new they are all pretty much the same in the 5-6k bracket.

FFS stop making mountains out of mole hills son.
Refer to my post; who would buy a 20yr old bike that has been around the clock, when all they want is a small 125cc commuter, something cheap and light that they will only sell in 12mths. head_wall.gif

Apart from age, looks, condition, rego cost...

aren't sv650's or Hyosung GT650's LAMS approved? I can't see why you would get a 125 that can barely do the highway speed limit if you could get either of the above bikes? Both pretty cheap too.
