Just like the what annoys you, this is about what scares you..
Doing deadlifts and screwing my lower back up bigtime.
Bench Press and having it fall on me
Losing grip with dumbbell and having it fall on my foot and breaking a toe or two.
Squats and having the bar slide down my back and doing major damage.

Knowing if I compete in the next sparring day my opponent will more than likely be 35kg heavier than me and have two extra years experience on top of that

I've watched him fight, he doesn't go easy on people...

That hurts.
I was pulling a 20 off the squat bar, so was pretty high. Lapsed out and dropped it on my big toe from shoulder height.. Crushed it lol.

yeah I've dropped a 20kg plate on my foot, lost feeling in the part it dropped on for a week lol
I've never really worried about my lower back from deadlifts as I've never really had a problem.
worried about knees when squatting though, buckled my right knee acouple of months ago going for a max, what wasnt fun

Two main things.
Back problems from deadlifts especially since I have terrible flexibility and tend to use my lower back more than my legs to lift. But I am working on it.
Had someone send me a video of a guy dropping the bar during bench press

considering deadlift primarily a back exercise, not sure why you'd use your legs more

Kinda hard to explain without drawing a diagram. But for the initial lift (i.e. when the weight is on the ground), I cant seem to squat down far enough. Meaning my torso is more horizontal than a typical starting position should be. This makes it harder for me to keep a straight back.

yeah a lot of people break at the knees when returning the bar to the floor when they should be breaking at the hips then knees... I must admit i squat down lower than that guy when i dead lift and use my legs heaps in the initial part of the pull.
GreekWarrior
Sep 29 2009, 01:05 PM
i tend to squat down a bit more if i'm going for a max or something, just to get a bit more initial drive
but i think it all depends on the person, body ratio and flexibility etc. for example I can bend over and put my hands flat on the floor, some people I know can't even touch the ground at all.
A bit annoying if I want to do stiff leg because I have to stand on an aerobics box to feel it in my hammies.
GreekWarrior
Sep 29 2009, 01:10 PM
also notice the shoulder/arm position difference between good and bad.
shoulders should be infront of the bar and shoulder blades in line with it.

you can squat down lower than this just keep that same shoulder position.

Nowhere near as bad as usual, i tend to hurt just to the ride side of lower back, today it was lower back dead centre, felt and heard a little pop..I have complete movement, it's a little sore but nothing scary..See how i feel tomorrow morning, can't tell until then.

Hey Damo, a better exercise for strengthening your back is Ukranium Deadlifts done with a heavy Kettlebell or dumbbell. You stand on blocks (say 30cm high) and you pull the weight through your legs from the ground to full standing. The weight travels in a straight line, much much safer than a deadlift where the barbell moves forward as it has to pass your knees.
exactly like this:

High reps & high volume with a moderate weight is your friend on this exercise. At PTC they use a 64kg and have comps to see who can do the most reps in 1 minute, the leaders are nearly getting 80 reps in a minute.
Great cardrio workout and great for strengthening your lower back

You want the start of the pull to be inline with your feet.
