I noticed today that there was a speed camera van at the lights in parap that have the new cameras on them. Would that be part of the testing?

One month trial on them so no fines.... but if the van gets you then you get a fine!
vh-holden
i wondered if they were going to match up the van photos to the fixed one.
incubus
shooting fish in a barrel much
vh-holden
i saw a couple of flashes while i was stopped at the other set of lights closer to town.
Megz
Perhaps they had the van there to check out the calibration if the testing hasn't been entirely successful dunno.gif
ScUd'EsS
I thought the van was before the intersection?
One camera to get you approaching the intersection one entering or leaving it.. Clearly with the number of fuck heads who have gone through even in a test period then i don't care if we have a van every 10mtrs smile.gif
dmac
that camera would be running hot because everytime i go past there it goes off from some drop kick speeding through so most likely they set the SCU there to catch em for some simple revenue. I rekon it would have nothing to do with calibration as from when I saw a couple of guys with laptops and a ladder when they were testing the one outside BP Palms
SCHSLYF
well worked out roughly that with the 1700 odd speeding fines (assuming they were all minimum fines) and something like 600 red light runs, in the first week of the "test" period there should have been something like $300,000 worth of fines that wont be issued. THAT WAS IN A WEEK.

shit i want to buy one of these cameras.

(mr2)
Hopefully they were there to get all the idiots that run the red lights, see so many people every day speed up and race through the lights.... idiots.
Plugg3r
Where abouts is this setup, near the Overpass?
DODelaney
i think its the new camera setup near buerepairs(spelling) there talking about...
i saw the van and the statics up yesterday aswell

New fixed camera set up inbound to the city the van was sitting on the left hand side verge after the first set of light and before the second set of lights.

They have every right to pull up there and anywhere they like and i don't understand stand the bull shit revenue raising arguement.... dont speed you wont pay them anything therefor no revenue....simple concept really!

considering our police vans are clearly marked in police stickers i would have to say our SCU are the most obvious. go down south, they have utes that look kinda like the telstra work utes with cabnets either side complete with ladders on the top racks as Speed camera units just as a example.

doesnt make a difference marked or not you shouldnt be speedin therefor no ones fault but ppls own,
Plugg3r
Yeh in SA they have like Rodeos parked on the side of the road in the country.. lol.

I have no issues with the speed cameras at all, Aslong as they're frequently calibrated and tested its all fine. Even the night vision ones...
dmac
Yea you shouldn't be speeding but i've seen cops waiting at the bottom of hills down south and here at spots where there is not known for "black spots" etc so this is revenue raising i dont care if anyone counters with "you should be in charge of your speed" because i will counter with what's more important viewing what's ahead of you or looking at your speedo every 2 seconds

im not sure on this but i think they can't be placed within 100m of a change of speed sign but i agree that up here they are so much more obvious then down south when i first saw them down south i can't believe they park behind bushes and have the camera on the side of the road
Pure-SX
End of the day it shouldn't bloody matter.

Shouldn't be speeding anywhos ffs
Pure-SX
And also, how hard is it too do the speed limit going downhill? If you can't get the f*ck off the road?
Plugg3r
I have an issue speed camera being placed after signs, like in Coolalinga where they park you go from 100 to 80... But that means you gotta speed down quite quickly not to be picked up on the camera.
Pure-SX
Errrrrrr in a "perfect world" one should be doing the speed limit once they hit the sign rather then gradually slowing once you have driven pass the sign
dmac
Your right its not hard to do the speed limit going downhill but thats not the point the point is they are banking on you slipping for a moment not monitoring your speed so they can catch you speeding which is revenue raising not to make you drive safer by hitting you in the wallet.

and yes you should be doing the speed limit before passing the posted sign

engine braking FTW

i was more intrigued why you would have two things doing the same job at the same spot. i guess while the fixed cameras are still being tested, it makes sense.
Norrs
grr it all bull shit. The wankers fine fast drivers not bad drivers. My frickin mum got done in an old hilux for speeding for fuk sake. I drive to conditions not speed limits. I have never crashed and never will. My fuckin missus crashes every 6 months and has never lost a single point but I have lost heaps. The system is shit. Bad drivers are not punished only fast drivers.

I know heaps of cops and they brag about speeding and burnouts in cop cars, yet they are never fined.

Having said that any one who does a burnout on a public road should lose his car coz your a wanka like the frikin cops who fining you for going 10km's over the speed limit where your racing to the airport on the airport road to catch a plane when your so late that your calling qantas at the same time to hold a flight.

Its all revenue raising bull shit. Bring back the CLP I say.

Yes I went passed the van at parap. fuckin dickheads. I'd love to put a van outside Peter McCauley Centre.
vh-holden
Can you be fined twice for the same offence? As in get caught by the camera which was parked about 10m past the first fixed camera after the overpass and was pointing towards the over pass, and then get caught by the fixed camera which is pointing the otherway?

I'm not interested in the whole do the speed limit and your fine (cos in reality aren't speedos only 10% accurate according to ADRs)

if two different police officers see the same offence being committed from different angles, the person isn't going to be charged twice for the same offence are they?

(and no, I'm not having a cry cos I got done. It just got me thinking)
Norrs
No you can't that would be duplicitous and one charge would have to be dropped. Each charge must relate to a separate offence. There is only one offence.
taffywing
i heard on the radio friday morning that the poo-lice may be getting the chasers taken away due to the fact that only a couple are trained to drive them at the limit and the rest are a public nuisance, please correct me if i am wrong...

p.s i heard the story via the ABC ( someone had changed the station in my work vehicle )
vh-holden
I thought i heard that another state was doing similar.

ok jus to chip in 2 cents. Speeding is wring blah blah blah. im no saint and i doubt no of you guys here are either. as an example of police abusing there power.

The other nite i was driving home along the highway at around2-3 in the mourning. coming up to the intersection on stuart highway where the lights are (mcmillans or vanderlin drive stuart highway intersection) i was roughly 3-400m away when the lights went green. i continue doing my speed of 110 yes it was a hundred and yes i was speeding.anyways the car which was stopped at the lights was toyota camry and took off with and got up to speed fairly quickly then started pulling away from me even when i was doing 110. i though id just continue and by the time i caught up to him i was doing roughly 120 before the 80km signposted and this bloke was still accel. i engine braked down to roughly 90-95 km in the 80 zone and this guy just brakes and pulls up next to me and behold it was a unmarked toyota camry cop car. he activates his lights next to me i slow down thinkin sht im gonna get fined. anyways he turns his lights off then takes off all while there was no sirens and lights. this just shows cops flaunt the law and get away with a lot more shit than ppl see. i continued on my m erry way doing the speed limit maybe slightly over the limit all the way home.

befopre you ppl jump on and say im this and that for doing so much over the lilmit get a life and look at your self b4 you start sayin shit. Speed cameras are not there to prevent anything all they do is revenue raise. while we have idiots drink driving everyweekend. road safety needs a new direction in driver training etc etc not colecting money on behalf of the NT Govt.

This by no means is a dig at cops. Its just some that give the rest a bad name.

cops have to put up with the majority of the scum of the population... if they want to put on their lights to get through traffic faster - then good on them. it doesnt physically hurt anyone, and hopefully they wont mind continuing to deal with all the crap from the lower end of the gene pool. it is sure as hell one job that i would pass at.

end of the day,

if you dont wanna get fined dont speed
