I'm just trying to decided which one of these to get, I was originally going to get dirt 2 because going by it's reputation of being a nfs game, thought that it was going to be shit but apparently it's good.

so I'm just trying to decided which one.

I might get dirt 2 for the ps3 and "acquire" nfs for the pc since I have a pretty decent one now.

so has anyone bought either of these?
GreekWarrior
update, just found out a demo for shift is up for pc, downloading from bigpond unmetered site.
Chris
You can get NFS Shift off TPB.
Not that i condone that sort of stuff.

I need to buy a G25. I would get NFS Shift personally. Didn't like Dirt 1 very much.
IRT
well Dirt make GRID... and GRID was 20x better then any NFS release, I'd go for Dirt2. Trust me the designers make more polished quality games then EA titles.

The only reason for a G25 is for games such as Live For Speed (LFS) rFactor etc.. what the hell would you do with a G25 and Need for speed? thats like buying a Nvidia GTX 260 video card to play Mario from the gameboy.

Why the fuck would you play a racing game with a keyboard?

Either controller or wheel.

need for speed is a racing game? SHIT that must be why you can grip a 90 degree angle at 490kph. yep defiantly need a wheel for that kind of realism!

Hmm, i wonder what you do in all NFS games, it wouldn't be driving cars, would it?
ALL car games are shit with keyboard. Its either flat out left, flat out right, flat out throttle, flat out braking ect.

Keyboards are a joke for any car game, in my opinion.
Mr.B
TBH, not that many have a flat out need for a steering wheel. If you're only play a racing game once a week, a steering wheel isn't really financially viable IMO. That said however, NFS Shift does feel like it could use a steering wheel, it's definitely setup correctly for it and actually feels like a proper racing game.

Play Live for Speed or rFactor before you say it 'feels like a racing game'
No it doesn't NFS feels like an unrealistic arcade game for 12 year olds.

Picked up both yesterday..

Dirt 2 is better by a longshot.. I find it hard to put Dirt 2 down, I'm enjoying it that much.

Shift seems to be plagued with input lag, though the driving is better than previous releases, and the car selection is pretty decent, it just doesn't compare to dirt 2 for me.

If you put you fanboyism aside we might be able to have a real discussion. Don't get me wrong rFactor is great if you're really into your racing games, but NFS is just as good from the point of view that it's just a little bit of fun out of something that's semi-realistic. I've enjoyed most of the NFS series bar Underground 1 & 2, Pro Street and Carbon. But Shift is a huge improvement in my opinion from the previous releases. Hence the 'feels like a racing game'.

Dirt 2 is good but i feel like sometimes on the downhill tracks in the likes of japan and croatia that the car follows the camber of the road too much and somewhat drives itself if you know what i mean, And the Trophy truck events shit me.
However the Trailblazer events are fucking epic, i feel abit let down by the lack of Australia and lack of differnt tracks too, theres some awesome cars in the game tho. The escort and the 95' wrx are great. The car physics are also heaps better than dirt1's. At high speeds the cars feel kinda unstable so in that way its pretty realistic.

Hey you fucking fanboy squirt, NFS shift on PC with braking/steering assist off, traction control, ABS and anti-skid off. 900 degree's set in the logitech profiler, deadzones set to 0% and sensitivity on 100% and see where your realism is at.

Perhaps if you took your penis out of the hole in the CD for rFactor and played NFS shift you would see its actually not that bad of a game.

EA didnt make Shift, Slightly Mad Studios did. EA are the publisher, not developer. BIG difference.

Shift is great, i highly recommend it.

Dirt2 is great, I bought it yesterday and haven't put it down yet, the fun level is hugeee and the physics are huge step up from the original dirt.

Hired Shift out today. And have to say. It's a very awesome game. Am quite surprised at how good it is. Few little things that are bit meh but overall I'd highly recommend. I think I shall buy it.
Bilistik.NZ
Bought Shift when it first come out 10/10 luv it!

LOL @ comparing rfactor to nfs shift.

Iv played shift for a a while now on my ps3 and i think its an awsome game , best driving sim to be released yet imo.
clutch-monkey
i tried the demo for NFS shift, i thought the point with demos was to try and sell the game to people. mission fucking failed
ToRN
IMO i asked my self the same question till i saw the boys at my local EB. There always update to date with the latest. Shift has a strong focus on cockpit driving and apparently plays really poor. On the other hand DIRT 2 is smashing sales and is apparently really fun to play.

If you want the better game. Get Dirt 2 much more enjoyable.
QIK TX5
get both ? dirt 2 is good to thrash the car around , and its playability is better on the outside view than nfs shift. But cockpit view on nfs is the bomb..plus think of the cars!
Stuit
going from the demo of DiRT2 and the full version of NFS:Shift, im glad i got shift. seems like the much better game to me. i havent had more fun in a racing game this generation or last.
GreekWarrior
oh right forgot about this thread lol

well I ended up getting dirt 2 when it came out, played the demo of nfs was alright but I already have grid, and they're pretty similar. Might get it when it drops in price.

dont have the original dirt so I'd thought I'd try a rally game.
TUF120
I bought nfs shift yesterday and found myself playing it for 8 hours straight, its a great game in my opinion. I found myself getting pissed off towards the end of my 8 hour stint at the loading time, but i put that down to being a tired cranky old man close to midnight.
