you have to have someone else riding within some distance who has had a open license for atleast 1 year , just look on the qld transport site

Sep 16 2009, 11:32 PM
Lol. What is wrong with Queensland? In every other state, you're allowed to ride on your own. If the Qld Transport site says differently, I guess that's what applies. The penalties would probably be on there somewhere too.

why dont you just go get your RE licence? Takes like half a day, and only a couple hundred dollars.. If you get caught it will prob cost you that much anyway..

you have to display L plates, riding without a licenced observer will make you an instant target. if you don't display your L's, it's a fine and demerit points, riding without an observer, it's a fine and demerit points. now you have no L's.
riding a bike that isn't LAMS approved on your L's is consider riding without a licence, plus all of the above.

Down in Tas your allowed to ride on your own on your L's - but get this shit - You are allowed to have a pillion on your L's, if the pillion has held a motorcycle licence for 3 or more years. Once you get your P's - your not allowed to have ANY pillions at all....now there's a dumb fuken law!!!!
If you can find a motorcyclist that would be happy to get on the back with a learner - i'll show you a pissed motorcyclist...lol

The obvious solution is to get your RE lisence
Since you plan on riding on the road it would be stupid not too
since its a) cheap to get b) without you have no insurance of any kind c) simple to get d) will take all of one day or less if we assume u can ride
theres no reason not to

I know here in SA it's the same deal for a pillion on a learner's bike. The instructors had the same sentiment, you'd either be extremely brave or stupid to do it. Unsure whether the same applies after you've gotten off your L's, but it's quite possible.
On that point though, do you actually need to be sober to ride with a learner, like supervising a car learner?

I reckon so - if any police officer saw a guy riding with an L plate up, with a pillion - you'd be like a red rag to a bull...So yeah - youd want to be sober if doing it legit...

For failing to comply with conditions stated on your license, it's 1 point and $100, if you aren' t wearing l plates it's 2 points and $160.
Really, if you go through q ride, you can skip all this crap, you can get your L's and same day get your P's for your bike. It's not the monetary and demerit consequences you should be worrying about mate.

In QLD 3 points n 300 bucks for riding outside your license restrictions thats if your on your P's, if your on your L's add failing to comply with conditions stated on your license, it's 1 point and $100. If your not wearing P-plates expect a further 2 points and 160 bucks. I know this, I learnt the hard way. Lube up bitch

There is no such offence as riding outside your motorbike license restrictions in qld. If there is and you can prove it, i'll apologize.
Otherwise, i was wrong, the actual offence would be 5(5)a: Learner licence holder fail to ride motorbike under direction of person 1 Point $160. So still the same penalty, but different offence.

If I still had my fines Id scan one for you. The law came in along with the new rules. 3 points and 300 dollars

This is gonna stir it a bit more. But I thought QLD had scrapped the Q-ride course. Because they FINALLLLLY realised that althought its good and 'cool' for the rider, its probably not a smart idea for people to just jump on unrestricted licences first up.
I was under the impression that from the start of the new financial year 08/09 that it was gonna be cut away.

Hmm, qride just lets you go from L's to P's for a RE license. You have to hold your RE's for a year.

SA has the same deal, can get your L's one weekend, and go for your R-date license the next weekend. Stuck on a LAMS bike for a year, but no loser plate.
