just trying to find best deal to get a 450d

i may have a deal going with
body
18-55mm
55-250mm
18-200mm
bags, filters etc

for about $1500

not sure whether to go a 40d or 450d?
pom13
Overpriced I reckon.

450d.. those lenses suck.

Get a 30d instead and buy a decent piece of glass and you'll be taking better pics.

rule of thumb is the less numbers infront of the D means the better the body. ergo XX0D is not better than an X0D and so on.

I'm with pom even if he did say it in an asshole-ish way. Everybody has to start from somewhere so it's no point starting with a 1D and L lenses, if this dude can afford only a 450D and basic lenses then don't sell him the wrong attitude of buying expensive shit will make him a better photographer, after all look at me! I got plenty of shit and still suck haha!
yella terra
yeah ive been doing a lil research and found out some more info about lenses etc
so will have a shop around for a good deal thumbsup.gif

have had a lil bit off experience with dslr's but want buy a decent one (either 40d or 450d) so ill see
what sort of lenses do you recommend getting just for general shots
not sure to go a twin lense kit or buy a really got all round lense yet

pom13
Depends dude... what kind of stuff are you into.

Generally the twin lens kits - the glass isn't very good. Hence why they come in the packs.....

I don't know of any "great" all round lenses that are cheap. Do you want to take portraits? Landscapes? Macro? Cars? Sports?

50mm f/1.8 is a handy little lens to have and will cost you about $120.

If you don't mind buying 2nd hand, then what about something like this:

http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CANON-EOS-30D-DIGIT...#ht_2952wt_1165

If you can stretch the budget that little bit, chuck a 24-105 L series lens on there and you'll be happy.

Or maybe even a 17-85 (although not that great in low light.... ) http://cgi.ebay.com.au/CANON-EF-S-17-85mm-...#ht_2673wt_1165 and couple that with a 50mm f/1.8 for $120.

If you do want an 'all round lens' you could try this: http://cgi.ebay.com.au/New-Canon-EF-S-18-2...#ht_2497wt_1165 although, remember, this covers such a huge focal length, that it will be slow, and not very good in low light, but it should be pretty good during the day.

Up to you mate.. once you start dabbling, you'll get caught by this very expensive, but fun habit smile.gif

yella terra
thanks for that mate some good info there certainty take it into consideration thumbsup.gif

im looking to do landscapes and cars mostly and general everyday snaps
but that could be a good way to go either get a 30 with some good glass or even a 450d etc etc with a decent lense
yes i can see how people can get carried away with it all mamoru.gif all these lenses and accessories where do you stop haha

as a owner of a 450d and also 5dmkII i can say the 450d is probs ur better option as it was released after the 30d and therefore has been improved. also i used the 24-104 f/4 is on the 450d and the 18-55 is as well and imho the 18-55 can take better pics most of the time. i believe this is due to it being a efs lens so it is designed to match the XXXd bodys. i havent had any probs with the 450d at all
pom13
I can see where Chris is coming from - but aren't 450d's about $900 for the body still, where a 30d you can get for like $400...

That extra $500 can come in handy for glass. If you can stretch the budget, get a newer camera though smile.gif

Good luck, let us know what you come up with smile.gif

Cheers

that is true aswell
but i know myself that i would like to get a good body that will last and just weighing up what sort of lenses, deals i can get etc
happy to pay around 1-1.5k for a good general use setup, have had a lil experience and i know will be taking it further in future
just want to get a good setup now
thinking about 450d body, and just buying a close and long lense
but not really sure about lenses dunno.gif i do have a fair idea about the bodies thumbsup.gif

yella terra
some good lenses that you quoted there too pom

maybe the 17-85 and or the 18-200 could be an option, somehting like that i think is the best just have to research my lenses a lil more and pick the best ones thumbsup.gif
pom13
Just remember, with a lens like the 18-200 don't expect the best from it. It's a huge range, and you won't get best results, although they will be good.

That lens is say, $600, but you can also get 2 lenses that will cover that same distance and pay a lot more for it

ie a 24-70 f/2.8 for like $1600 and a 70-200f/2.8 for $1700 as well.. so you effectively pay $3300 for the 'same' coverage, but it's 7x the price... although you do get what you pay for.....

It's all fun and games though.. but a 50mm f/1.8 is a must I reckon. $130 new or $100ish 2nd hand. Great low light lens that you can take photos indoors with no flash!

yeah that is true i was looking around and found some good packs but unsure of which one to get as they have different sets of lenses

https://www.camerasdirect.com.au/index.php/...n/eos-450d.html

i think maybe a kit with a few lenses is all i need for starting, but i am definitely going to get a 50mm regardless, alot can be done with them for what they are.

not really sure what kit to get
im thinking that the 450d is the way to go and just unsure on the glass
i want to be taking car photos, stills and moving but also just a general camera for happy snaps, nature, ppl etc
if i can get out of it for around 1400 i think would be good i were to go with a few lenses thumbsup.gif

maybe a kit like the "Canon 450D 18-55mm 55-250mm Twin IS Lens Kit" and the 50mm aswell

I got what your last line said...

bought from myer, smashed everyone elses prices by a lot... then bought the 50mm 1.8 2nd hand later on, now I want to upgrade lenses but how would I have known from the start which lenses to buy, thats the thing, you have to use shit ones to find out what is wrong and what is right, and what you want to get next, etc. You'll find you might want to get some macro lenses and stuff... I reckon just buy the kit, and the 50 1.8, its what everone does, but if you know you want a 24-105 or a 17-85 then get that. Actually, after I said that, thats next on my list is the 17-85 i think, anyone selling one by the way?

good luck mate

I've had one and they're pretty good but suffer from lens creep & barrel distortion on the wide end and pin cushioning on the long end. I AM HOWEVER SELLING MY SIGMA 24-70 f/2.8 EX DG! I upgraded from my 17-85 to this because of it's constant aperture & great optical quality. I'll PM you some info.

The gf got a 450d with 18-55mm and 55-250mm kit IS lens from JB for $1250.

That was about 2 weeks ago or so. He said "the ticket price is about $1599, the real price is about $1250".

As cheap as most places on the net selling Australian stock with australian warranty.
