Hey guys,

Situation is this - I'm moving into a new place next week. There is a phone line outlet in the kitchen (as you'd generally expect), but that's it. I need to run the PC in a different room but there's no other phone outlets in the house. Where I currently live there is an outlet in the kitchen (where the home phone is connected), and one in another room (where my PC is connected). I have no idea what to do in the new place. What do I need to buy? I'm very competent with computers, but not with networking/wireless etc - in fact have near no clue. Surely I don't have to run a cable from the kitchen to another room :S

I'm currently using Internode 1.5Mb ADSL if that helps in any which way!

Any help appreciated!

Cheers

Plug a wireless modem/router (like a Dynalink RTA1025W) into your available ADSL point, and use wireless on your desktop. If you dont have wireless on the PC, wifi cards (either PCI or USB) are very cheap.

You can also get a telco nerd to wire you up another phone outlet of course. Which would be a better option, imo. Wired LAN is far better than wireless LAN.

Excellent, will check it out, thanks TRK.

Ring up an electrician or cabler and ask them to put in another phone point should be peice of cake providing your house is single story with accessible ceiling space. I know I do them at work all the time for $110 i'm sure someone could to it similar price maybe less for cash.

Or yeah, Put your Wireless Modem Router (if applicable) in the kitchen and use wireless connectivity to get access to the internet (may or may not require you to buy a wireless card/dongle/whatever).

This. Although, I had a lot of trouble with D-Link branded gear, so i'd stay away form that if it was me. Then again, other people may have had good experience with them...

Woah, dont be confusing DLink with Dynalink....

Dynalink makes some great stuff. DLink makes expensive paperweights, that often dont even work as a paperweight.
