Full Version: Thinking Of Taking Dirt Bike To Race Track

Been thinking about this for a while. Was going to go full motard shit but I still ride a lot up the bush - so was thinking of getting another set of dirt bike wheels, throwing some "dual" road tyres at the stock 21 an 18 inch rims and see what happens. The local track is pretty small so plus 2 on the front sprocket should be fine for gearing - be a cheap way of having some great fun - it's only an RMX250 but the track doesn't suit the GSXR1000 - and it only ends up frustrating the shit outta me on the big girl.

Anyone done somthin similar ? Anyone issues ?? Anyone know best tyres that come in dirt bike sizes ??

Cheers Si.

Guess your talking about basky, pretty much everyone says its a shit track for a thou lol!

Ive seen plenty of motards out there, never anything with "dual purpose" tyres though, but i reckon it would still be fun, probably even surprise a few people in the middle group...

there is a whole class for racing them here, i've seen motard prepped CR500 giving it to a CBR600RR

Get a set of slicks on those rims it will be worth it. Also you might want to go for a brake upgrade too. What is the track like? They race Motards at Morgan Park in Warwick QLD, tight track, they lap around the same as the 600s.

Should be fine Si, there are a few people that run around out there on duals and still seem to have enough fun thumbsup.gif

They certainly did miss the point. I cant be bothered gettin a set of wheels, brakes etc etc that goes along with the motard scene - although having ridden one, i know why they go round corners so damn well...I just thought the RMX with some duallies on it would be sideways everywhere, and with a top speed of only 150 ish, the brake swont get a hard time anyway.
Stuff it - might have a crack and see how it goes.

years ago I went to a race meet in Sydney and they had a single cylinder catagory (sr500, uk bikes etc) all street race prep bikes but the bike that won (buy a shyte load almost half the track) and was the only one like that was a kx500 1989 with the only mod i saw was race slicks and pulled up forks. Funiest thing to see going around the corner putting the old leg out he couldnt knock the MX habit. I would give it a go!!!!!!!!!!!!
