Hey all.
Been looking at purchasing a bike soon as i can get my learners early December. Dont want to spend more than $4000 and the problem being is i'm not a big guy (60kg 170cm). So i've been looking at a Honda Cbr125 as you can get a 06/07 for that price range. Another option was a Aprilia 125 a earlier model tho.
Just wondering on opinions as i don't know to much about bikes.. I will most likely be upgrading the bike once on off the RE licence so i didn't want to spend to much on the first bike.
Any help appreciated.

my advice is to test ride them and see how they feel, both very good bikes your talking about there. though i think the aprilla would be my pick... depending on the age tho..

I can vouch for the cbr. I learnt to ride on one of those. They are extremely comfortable to ride, its not heavy on your wrists. It's fuel injected, 15hp or something, great for a commuter. A mate with it tells me he gets 400ish+ km to a tank if I remember right.
The suspension is comfortable, it has a magnetic tank which comes in handy.
The power isn't huge in the great scheme of things, but is perfect for a n00b. Enough to get u around, but not enough to get u into trouble.
I dont like the wheels though hahaha.
damn cheese cutters.
But for an almost new bike, they are damn good value.

If your interested a good mate of mine has his 08model CBR125 with about 1000km on it, perfect nick for sale for 3500 i believe.
Good bike for the learning period, allthough they will struggle if u have to do alot of highway riding with the lack of power, but for around town they are perfect, reliable, look good and cheap to run.
PM me if u want to know more

I'd normally say go Aprilia, but Hondas are always pretty decent bikes anyway.
It's probably a better idea to get something a bit newer... less things will go wrong with it (hopefully) and as an inexperienced rider, you don't really want troubles with the bike.

GPX250. Almost as cheap (you'd have to go a few years old, as opposed to maybe 1 year for the CBR125), easy to ride, great reliability, enough power to get out of their own way but still good on fuel. I've known heaps of learners that have had them, and all have been extremely happy.
The CBRs would be fine for around town, but once you even hit 80kmh the overtaking power (or lack of) could be a problem. Being on a bike leaves you very exposed, so it's good to be able to go faster in an emergency situation, as well as being able to stop. Also depreciation is going to hurt much more on the newer bike, whereas you can almost get back what you paid on an older bike. Test ride both, you'll know which is more capable afterwards.

Aprillia is more of a race bike sold on showroom floor. I would def suggest the cbr if you've never ridden before.... or if you do like 2 bangers honda also make nsr150 which is cheap!

Mechanically identical to a GPX, and they look better. So I'd definitely recommend these too.

They stopped @ 2007 but the Honda VTR250 are a great learner bike and don't have so much of a problem on highway riding.
