the only good thing about that soarer for drifting is the engine...
downside is the big body, the auto transmission and the car is not a good car to start drifting in. Look at good beginner cars like S13's, ae86's, ke70's, r32, cefiro's etc....
overall I would not get the soarer if the intended purpose of it is drifting.
good luck

It can be done
Having said that the money you'd spend on getting the Soarer to drift; even half decently you could quiet easily get something like an S13 to slide more comfortably and it would be easier to learn in.
After market parts and spares for cars that have already been mention are far more plentiful as well.
So I suggest if your just getting into the sport buy a proven platform to modify.

Pffft, it's as easy to get a soarer driting as anything else..... The 1g might be a bit low powered, but so is an rb20.... They are both 2l inline sixes....
Most parts (all the ones that matter) on these cars are interchageable with a70 supras. W55 manual conversion, set of coilovers, 2 way diff, alloy radiator, oil cooler, and exhaust, fmic and some extra boost jsut to get it moving better adn you will have a fine car to drift in. All these parts are readily available too.
Z20's are popular and capable.
While it's true than an s13 may be a bit easier to learn in, it won't be that much harder in a soarer.

1j is 2.5 litres...
Also, wouldn't a soarer be too soft for drifting?

first of all the 88 soarers didnt have 1j's.
second of all...wtf does your second remark mean? two soft?
ive wanted to drift a 88 model soarer. i would go for a manual conversion with a decent suspension setup and i rekon it would do fine (also strip it and basic stuff like cooler and exhaust)
soarers can drift fine, they are just not as popular as other cars due to there weight and size.

mate..... It's not a 1jz if it's the stock twin turbo motor.... gz20 soarers came with a 2.0l inline 6 cylinder call a 1ggte.... mz20 soarers came with a single turbo 3.0l inline 6 cylinder call a 7mgte.... z20 soarers NEVR came with a 1jz from the factory.... How about getting your facts straight

And no, they aren't too soft... You can get coilovers with springs as heavy as you like.
Silvia's didn't come from the factory stiff and ready to drift you know
