Heres the deal, i've got a laptop and a PC. I want the PC connected directly to the internet, while having the laptop connected over wireless.
Can you buy wireless modems, or will i have to connect a modem to the wireless router?
Any decent brands and models to look for?

Thanks

Dynalink RTA1025W for wireless router/modem in one, for $99 (+$11 delivery) from here:
http://www.cormain.com.au/store/agora.cgi?...mp;ppinc=detail

That way the laptop uses wifi, the home PC uses ethernet, and you only have one bulky powerpack to plug in to your wall outlet / power board.
Chris
Thanks, thats one of the reasons i wanted 2 in 1, two power packs take up 4 outlets on a powerboard.

I'll have a look around, i doubt i will find one local here though. My best bet is probably JB Hi Fi.

I've bought stuff from Cormain and JMG Technology and both have been overnight deliveries. I dont know who'd stock Dynalink stuff locally, they tend to stick to companies with big marketing budgets, like Netgear wink.gif

In fact, I've bought probably bought a dozen RTA1025W or RTA1046VWs from Cormain for people (friends/families/work) tongue.gif I should be getting bulk discounts by now.

I like the RTA1025Ws... You can pretend youre hacking the Gibson

Awesome, shit tends to take doubly as long to send up to Darwin though.

Especially Toll, two weeks to send a 12cm X 10cm X 8cm box, could've sent that shit up by air.

My current setup is a Siemens SpeedStream 4200 (supplied by Telstra) into a Xterasys XR-2405 (From Jaycar, has no labeling on he box whatsoever, took me ages to find an online manual.)
I get random disconnects because of the router, probably pport related issues but changing settings in it is awful.

Speedstream 4200 is actually quite decent as a modem (and can be used as a router too if you want - just hook it up to a wireless access point and/or switch)......

The router is likely dying because of your naughty piracy. Turn down the number of connections your torrent client allows (and I mean halve it or more) and it may turn out ok?

The 4200 IS connected to a wireless router. Its the router thats fucked, not the modem.
The modem is fine, but the wireless router i have now is a piece of no named Chinese shit.

.... thats exactly what Im saying :\ Theres nothing wrong with the modem, its just the router thats dying.... So rather than replace the lot, why not try turning down the number of connections your torrents use and see if the router can handle that? Its usually a lack of processing power that causes them to die. Turning down the number of concurrent connections means it can keep up with demand, and thus not crash.

Theoretically.

Most of the time Utorrent isn't even open when i'm on (slows connection rolleyes.gif )
Just in a lot of games i get random disconnects when on wireless, but not directly from the modem.
