Isn't the ruling though HID kits fitted are legal if they have twin lenses? Like a low beam and a separate light for high beam?
There is a lot of cars that have HID kits on a single lense cars with are illegal as they dont have a high beam...

Well im not an expert by far but my understanding as you can only select a low or high function on the kits, if you put it on the side of the low beam and make it a low beam. I cant see the issue for getting in trouble for this, and I know many people go over pits with that...

Best thing, ask MVR or something... The bottom line is they are the ones you got to go to for defect so what ever they say is basically law... Even if it isnt..

Its never legal to fit HID's to cars fitted with halogen or incandescent type globes.

The reason being that a HID globe requires a very specific lense to focus the beam. When you put a HID 'kit' into a head light that wasnt originally fitted with a HID setup, it simply spews light all over the place, pissing off everyone in the oncoming lane and providing little benefit to the modified car.

If a raws complianced or personal import car is brought over and found to be fitted with an aftermarket HID kit, it is of course removed. If the said car is factory fitted with the HID type, its kept that way, as fitting a halogen/incandescent globe would pretty much fudge the headlights ability to operate safely when required.

If you so desperately need or want to have HID's because your penish shrinks and inverts to a vaginal state whenever a BMW/Merc/camry/ fitted with factory HIDs passes you in the opposite direction, please......PLEASE......do a proper retrofit of an existing HID focusin lens and housing, so that you will a) have a proper cut off line to stop blinding oncoming traffic and b) actually have some focused light to throw onto the road in front of you and not look like a total try-hard twisted titty tool bag with light spewing out everywhere and attracting a defect.

I see...

Thought i would make the query seeing as the car im buying comes with a HID kit not yet installed. I dont want them that desperate that i would do a retro fit, although i have seen the lexus projector type lights fitted into a supra somewhere on supraforums, it looked awsome, the price tag didnt though

Just cruise around with high-beams on, I do occasionally and nobody has flashed me yet. Perhaps it is because my headlights are majorly fogged and they look dull?

I drive around with low beams on and get flashed every 5 seconds...

aftermarket hid lights are not adr compliant unless as stated above are fitted as original equipment.
if you want better lights go with phillips chrystal vision.

Agreed.

I would say before making any modification to your car you first consult MVR. if they say that they cannot be installed on your car ask them if it is possible to have them ADR Approved. If MVR say no then your out of luck.

Hmm my zed came with HIDs in the 2000 spec. uses the same headlights only difference is a bracket under the headlight its self.

When i got my car complied up here, i went to MVR and they didnt say anything bout it? Maybe they missed it but doubt it. I also have projector style like the aristo and supra(i think)
