I was udner the impression that it's still processed and that just having normal fish would be better?

for the effort of peeling the batter away (only thing that makes them taste good) you may as well just cook real fish

Yeah they are good as long as you deep fry them after. You could just try tuna? It comes in all sorts of exotic flavours these days.

Yeah, try the John West natural smoke flavour or seeded mustard flavour in a salad.
Mango chili is nice by itself too.
Do not stoop to buying 'You'll Love Coles' tuna, it's not flavoured, it just has a few bits of mangy olive, corn kernels etc in the can to pad it out. Actual tuna content would be less too.

No. Just processed crap. Avoid it.
Get fresh local fish, like some nice snapper or barra. Simply steam it in a bamboo steamer over a wok with some shallots and some sliced ginger. Make a basic soy, Shao Xing and seasme oil sauce and serve over some steamed bok choy/choy sum with rice.

Good answer. I used to eat grilled snapper every night for dinner, but steaming is even better.

Simple mate. Do you have a wok?
If not buy one.
Then go to a chinese grocery store and get a bamboo steamer pot. Should be about 10 bucks. Make sure it fits in the wok, fill the wok with water up to the bottom of the steamer, get it bubbling away, put the fish in the wok and then cover up.

Rainbow Trout - baked is awesome
Snapper or Nile Perch - grill or steam
Fish fingers are generally Hoki (similar to McDonalds Fish Fillets)... it comes from places where the water is really polluted to begin with and then processed. Yuk.

My old flatmate used to watch Neighbours religiously and I remember seeing some bogan deliquent kid character on there that wanted to eat fish-fingers for every meal... mmm, nutritious!
