Im having a problem with my internet conection droping out. Ive noticed that this almost always happens when i open up any media programs on my computer such as Windows Media Player or iTunes. It also happens when opening Steam and trying to play CS 1.6.
I currently have a sattelite internet that runs into a D Link DIR-615. From here it is split to two computers, both via LAN cable/(wireless option not being used at all). Now i thought that it may have been a problem with my computer and after much trial and error i couldnt fix it. So i decided to format my computer(was upgrading OS anyway) and now with the computer wiped its still happening.
Thought it may have been the router, but the dropping out still happens with other routers. Then called the ISP and they sent a tech out to check everything out, and he said that the internet conection looked fine, so it must be something on our end.
Now im just lost, as ive tried troubleshooting the 3 main areas in the network that could be cauing this.
Please help!

what Lan speed is the router???
I had similar problems with my old router - it was 100 mega bit and all the computers connected to were 1 gig bit and the router would hang when I jump on myspace or start using utorrent.
I changed my router to a Belkin N+ and that problem disappeared..
My mate who also had similar problem with his D-link fixed it by changing the router ... i know you said you've changed the router, but is it still D-link? Try a Belkin or other brands if you can borrow them... or when you buy it, let the sales person know what your problem is. They usually tell you to bring it back if the new router doesn't fix the problem.
Good luck mate.

Both routers ive tried are D Links yes. Im not sure what the LAN speed is, i coudnt even find out on their website. Although i did find this bit of info in an online review, not sure if its even relevant haha:
QUOTE
All of the router's ports--including four LAN and one WAN port--are regular 10/100 Ethernet. Meaning, if you want to use the router for wired connections, you can't take advantage of the higher Gigabit Ethernet (up to 1000Mbps) found in other Wireless-N routers.

Is your router plugged into the wall directly or into a power board with multiple sockets?
Could be an issue with a shortage in power.

router and satellite power are both on the same 2 way power adapter, and they are the only 2 thing running off it. How would that relate to only happening when i open certain programs ect?

I dunno man it was the first thing Internode told me to try when I had problems holding a connection.
Turned out to be a problem with my modem though...

What OS are you running now?
call your ISP and ask them if there is any specific DNS server you should be using, or ask them for the details and put it in manually.
start>control panel>network connections>local area network connection>internet protocol TCI/IP>use the following DSN Server settings.
Thats for XP btw

Using Windows 7.
Im just biting the bullet and paying someone to come check it out, and not leave till i know exactly what the problem is.

that could be costly mate... did you try using other routers???
i had my belkin n+ for couple of weeks now and it hasn't dropped out once... whereas the old one would have dropped out few times already

you do realise that most guys that come out and look at your computer charge around 100$ an hour.
cant be much mate, try to work it out yourself.
coz the missus' dad got someone to come in and look at his comp, and all they had to do was reformat the hard drive and they charged him 400 bucks...

I think the router could be a issue dude.

Its the second router though. Bought this one brand new and instantly had the same problems.
However i THINK i may have found the problem. Its a bit of a far stretch but its the only thing thats worked so far. So ive found that it mainly drops out when watching videos or listening to music ect. I noticed one day when i opened iTunes that it didnt drop out. Checked to see what was different and the only thing i had changed, was the audio was running into the TV speakers(TV is my monitor) rather than into the headphones. Now the headphones are wireless so could there be any chance that they interfere with the wireless satellite signal for the internet?
Ive been running the sound through the TV for a few days now and havent had a single drop out ever, no matter what i do.

Bluetooth has been known to interfere with Wireless signals.
I had nothing but trouble when using a bluetooth headset with my PS3 connected via wireless.
This may as well be the culprit to your problem.
