Ok, i am looking to upgrade my motherboard and processor and add more ram, maybe get a new tower/box. i don't think i have to upgrade my grapics card and my hard drive. question is, do i need to reinstall/reformat windows if i am going to use the same hard drive? recommendations for motherborads and procesors (<<<spelling cos that shit don't look right) would be good.
current processor is amd 64 3800+. graphics card is a 9800gt, 1 gig of ram. fucks me how to get a legit list of my specs, i just use the thing (porn + gaming)
any help or feedback appreciated cos some of you seem to know heaps about PC's

As soon as your motherboard changes, you will need to reinstall Windows.

Are you looking to to to Intel processor or stick with AMD? If you stick with AMD you may not need to change the motherboard so long as your new CPU and current motherboard has same socket size.

Just going by what you've listed, I'd focus on the RAM.. You want at least 2 gigs, so if your current RAM is pretty quick, just get another gig or two and make sure they are same speed.

thanks for reply.
why would i have to reinstall windows? i admit i don't know shit
I would stick with AMD but from what i have read and been told maybe i should look at going for Intel?? opinions? i've personally never had a problem with AMD except for when i upgraded my graphics card and my games started to fuck up. loads of lag and difficulty loading. i wasn't even playing high end games and it still fucked up. i'm currently running a gig of RAM and have a 512 graphics card, could this cause issues??
any feedback appreciated

If you stick with AMD you don't need to change the motherboard and you won't need to reinstall windows.

If you want to go to Intel, then you will need to change the motherboard and reinstall windows.

It's strange that your new graphics card with 512mb ram is lagging - especially if the computer didn't lag before the upgrade... Have you tried to update the graphics card with latest driver??

if lagging is your problem, I'd suggest do bit of clean up on the computer...

Run Malware and Virus scans
Defrag your Hdd
Update Drivers

Then see if it improves the speed.

Then I'd look at getting more RAM, and possibly new CPU.

Just out of curiosity, what res are you running your games at? and what quality level?

Use CPU-Z for specs.
1GB of RAM is nothing, should upgrade.
AMD is better performance for the money.
