I will make this quick this time cause i lost my 40 min effort to cyberspace !!!! dunno.gif

I have a group 3 lookalike with ablack 202 and trimatic i have just purchased a vq statesman with a 304 and t700?
Im not keepin the t700? cause it wont handle much more than 550 hp i have been told, and i am goin to buy v8 trimatic and get work done, do these bolt straight on to the new blocks ???
I dont know what exactly i have to change to drop it easily between those rails im guessin sump and mounts ?
My mate said i need a VK v8 k frame cause he has one in his yard probably !!!
Any help would be greatly appreciated !! and i will have a millon questions to ask in the next few months and hope you can be all part of the build !!!! tongue.gif

dont take this the wrong way but why would you remove a turbo 700 in favour off a trimatic if anything at least use a turbo 350

and as for the bolt up bit i dont think a trimatic pattern box bolts up to a turbo pattern vn 308 block
VKGRP3
How well does the t350 bolt up to the 304 ? do you think i could sell trimatic and t700 for a 350 ?? thought they were hard to find now days i will have a search today and see if i can find one thanks mate i need as many experienced opinons i can get and i will never take it the wrong way !!!! No info on the mounts and sump????

Thanks again thumbsup.gif

All good bud i had a bit more of a search and i found out i can use the 6 cyl k frame or the one out of the vq
i think i might use the vq due to havin the better rack i have attached info for anyone out there tryin to do same but there must not be many !!!!!! i found this on a torana site !!!!

1. The distance between the 2 chassis rails from VB to VS is the same. Any VB to VS K-member will bolt to any pair of VB to VS chassis rails. BUT !!

2. The front track measurement is the same from VB to VP (except for some small variations in wheel types). Bolt-up-face to bolt-up-face is identical. Lower arms, struts rods & struts are also all the same from VB to VP, the only change being the stabiliser bars links going to the strut itself on VN/VP. The VN/VP lower arm still has the hole for the VB/VL link but is not used. When Holden released the VN it had a wider rear track than the earlies but the front remained the same.

3. The K-member is the same from VB to VP except for differences in engine mounts (VL6 & VN/VP V6) & rack mounts. All Holden 6 & V8 engine mounts are the same. There are 3 different types of steering rack mounts listed below.

4. The strut mounting & lower arms is different for VR/VS & the K-member is different to cater for this. The VR & VS have more positive castor designed into the front end geometry. The VR/VS also have a wider front track than the VB to VN, because of longer lower arms.

5. All P/st racks from VB to VK use the same mounts, these mounts are also the same as non-P/St from mid-VH to VK. VB to mid-VH non-P/st rack mounts are unique, the rack is mounted higher, requiring a shorter intermediate shaft. All racks VB to VK are TRW.

6. Rack mounts from VL to VS (for the Bendix-Bishop type rack, both P/st & non-P/st) are the same, but smaller than the VK & earlier.

Hope this helps someone !!!

Next Q will the seats out of the vq bolt straight in to vk ??
and how hard is it to convert from injection to carb on the 304???

Thanks again wavey.gif

Pretty sure the seat rails have to be modified, could be wrong but i think you use the rails from the VK seats. There is plenty of people that have done this before, you just need to get out and find the info. Commodore sites will be much more help to you then Boost.

Trimatics don't bolt up to the 304's. All VN onwards blocks are Turbo pattern. Either Turbo 350 or 400 is what you need. I've just put a full manual Turbo 350 behind my blown 304 VS, box is good for 600hp at the motor, this is pretty close to the limit for 350's. 400's are much stronger and handle much more power, but are much heavier and larger. Decide what power you are aiming for, whether it is going to be for street or strip duty and pick the apropriate box. If you're in doubt just quiz an auto shop about it, they will tell you exactly what box and mods you will need for your application.

With regards to making the 304 carb'd, there is a few different options. Torque Power, Harrop and Procomp all make carby manifolds to suit the VN heads. If you plan on making a bit of power out of it speak with an engine builder. If you want something pretty basic, just stick a decent cam in it, some mild head work and one of the above manifolds with the apropriate sized carby.

Hope this is of some help.
wooley
here is an idea i ran a 304 but was carbied went real well or put the 304 heads on your 308 and work it

My mate reckons the trimatic isnt a bad gearbox, you are the only one on here to say a good thing bout them ....
still lookin for a t350 though dunno if the old tri would cope with twin demons and a 6/71 !!!!
