Hey guys, im in the middle of deciding which car to buy atm between a s13 silvia or 180sx. they are both manual Sr20de [im on them gay p plate laws] so i was wondering what sort of engine would be good for N/a drifting just untill i get the hang of it if the sr20 arnt the best id be willing to do a conversion. i do realise the lack of power will make it alot harder to drift but i am willing to try smile.gif
so just wondering what your ideas are.

Thanks. thumbsup.gif

Did you have a look at any of the topics on the first page before you posted this...?
Also, a 180SX is an S13.
Any NA engine is fine for drifting as long as it spins the wheels.
ALSO i call bullshit cos you also 'apparently' own a VE HSV Senator V8, of which you are the first owner and it now has 27,000k's... that you did while under new p-plate laws?
Youre selling it for $60,000... and are stuck deciding between which of two cheap shitters (in comparison) you will buy...?
unclepaulie
what are you actauly asking? both hav sr's,

you cant change them either way cause your on p plates

if troll, i vote rb20e, heaps of torque, breathes real easy too haha

Said in the for sale thread that you bought it new etc... hmm.
Didnt you also own an audi turbo...? That was your car?
Anyway, on topic, have you actually been to a drift course and watched the cars...? there are a lot of NA SR20 silvias and 180s, and NA skylines that get out there and drift quite well.
done. we have now answered the question that has been asked once every TWO DAYS since boost started a drift section.

either silvia or 180sx came with CA18 or SR20 motors depending on the year it was built.

dann_m, heres some useful info for you.

* 180sx never came non-turbo from factory. they were only ever built with a CA18DET or SR20DET motor.

* engine conversions while on your P plates are ILLEGAL. because they require a modplate. and P platers cant have mod plates.

*should you find a non-turbo 180sx, it will need to be mod plated for the engine conversion, unless someone simply unbolted the turbo from it and plumbed all the lines back, in which case it will be slower than your grandmother's 1984 Daihatsu Charade due to having low cylinder compression, and completely undriftable.

so, with the predicament youre in, your best option is a Manual SR20DE Silvia. you can drift these cars with very basic supporting mods (coilovers, LSD) and still be competitive.

good luck

Thanks buddy, i didnt no that p platers cant drive cars with engine conversions i guess is the old silvia for me.
thanks to everyone else for the usefull info.
getwheel
P-Platers cant do engine conversions. it becomes a modified car.... Busted / Slammer
jish
silvia, because theres plenty of p plate legal ones, and they're cheap as chips with parts.
Marcus89
there are factory non-turbo 180sx's the type-s rare as all hell but and probably carry way to big a premium for it to be worthwhile getting
avant
ae86 is lighter and has heaps of power to drift in chuck sum quad throttles on n ur set!

wouldnt it be cheaper to go a S13 beasue its easyer to find and easyer to drift with less mods?

This is wrong. 180's did come out with Non-turbo engines. But they are rare.
