If i get this 120y thats for sale, and I want a better engine, ive only got 2k to do it, wats the best motor??? and it has to be p-plater friendly
JayWA
If it has to be P plate friendly that means you can't put any other engine in apart from the 1.2 litre it came with. If didn't have to worry about P plate i would go an L20 probly. Cheap and decent. Grab some webbers and whatnot you'll be laughing. If ya want an L16 i can get a hold of one and everything you'll most likely need, cheers

454 should do the trick mamoru.gif

You could put a very healthy a14 or a15 in for that coin. Easy conversion to do & keeps the engine bay stock looking too. They are bulletproof engines, very reliable & perform very well. Also they are lighter than an L series donk, so the handling doesnt go out the window either.
Hope it goes well for ya mate.

go the a15 n wack on some twin sidedarughts 40dcoe's would be best. all bolts straight in.

If you had a bit more $$ you could go a ca18det. Mate just done this, 230rwhp on 11psi in 850kg... Stock motor.

P platers aren't allowed to modify a car to the point it requires a mod plate, so you're pretty limited in what you can do, and an A14 doesn't make a huge difference anyway.

I'd start with the suspension, brakes and tyres and it will be quicker from point A to B than fitting an A14. S13 brakes can be converted onto the 120Y struts, or you can swap in Stanza struts and brakes. New shocks and springs & reset rear leaves and you will have a real fun little car.

engine wise, the cheap upgrades are 32/36 Weber or twin SUs - twin weber/dellorto are wasted on a stock motor. 1.75" exhaust is heaps. Extractors maybe. A cam regrind would really help, but you have to remove the engine to do that with the A series.

i fitted an a15 to my datsun ute when i had it and it wasnt that much differance.your better off spending the 2g on a good night out and just use the dattto as an a to b car and not worry about modding it lol
