Hey guys, got a 250R ninja built in April 09 that ive had for 6 weeks, just broke it in, had first service done and has done 3000k's. i paid 9000 for it drive away, was wondering if anyone was interested and what sort of price i should ask for it. its not officially for sale therefore i didnt put it in the classifieds, i just wanna know what sort of money i should expect for it. its as new, totally stock and not a single scratch.
cheers guys =]
No idea what its worth, but you should keep it. You're gonna lose a bit on it I'd say...
And don't call it a ZX2R, thats a completely different bike.

Maybe 7 grand? Check on bikesales for what's the going rate, but you're definitely going to be losing a bit of cash. Also yeah it ain't a ZX2R, they're the older 4cyl sportsbikes, not the dressed up GPX.

i dont call it a ZX2r, i call it a 250 ninja, however ZX2R is the model code thats on the rego papers, the contracts and what it was sold to me as so i put that up there

yeah the guys there just sold a second hand one for 7500 ride away, thats the price of a new one less the on road coasts, so i was guessing around 6500-7500

haha you wont start a shit fight. Did you get the 08/09 EX-250-J model? I heard that the 250-H had a few bad reviews, but I really love the new shape one. It s not massively powerful, but still pulls away from my mates commys until it maxes out at around 160 in a straight line. Going up Binna Burra or Springbrook mountain ill pull away from my mates 400 honda as the ninja handles so well, and keep up with my mates 600CBR (until the straight then hes gooooneee) it hasnt missed a bit and i reckon its the best looking 250 around (probs why i bought one haha)

lol, 250's
Mate id be looking at the 6.5k mark. Remember the shop has to put the price up to make a profit, plus they sell usually with a warranty on new bikes etc..
Dont be dissappointed if its more like 6k or less though...

I paid 7200 for mine ride away

12 months rego etc etc.
and i am thinking of advertising it soon for ~6 but not suree really.
depends on Wat kind of a deal they give me on a new 600 if i trade it in

The rego papers really say ZX2R? I thought they were sold as a Ninja 250R, the other name really follows on from the actual sportsbikes.
I do think they're a decent looking bike, and pretty good at commuting, but if you're beating much better bikes then it's probably just rider skill. The suspension and brakes are still economy spec, they're not going to tear up the twisties like a proper sports bike.
As for selling price, another thing to consider is when you want it sold. Going after a quick sale means a lower price, whereas if you're prepared to wait you could get a better price (Mind you with a bike that new, the extra depreciation could be a factor).

Ive got a mate who does sales at a bike shop, he said anything newish and LAMS approved will get traded at an alright price cause they know they'll sell, and usually quickly.

yeah thanks heaps for the help. i understand about deprecaition etc, ive been a car salesman and dealer for a few years but was unsure about the retail of bikes online. i know i could wholesale it back to kawasaki for 6.2, however they just retailed an 09 done 9000k's for 7500, so was wondering if people are prepared to pay that privately or if only from an actual dealership.
and to the guy who paid 7200, great deal, did you have to wait at all for it? where abouts was the dealership you purchased from? haha, i tried to negotiate with them, trust me its what i do for a living haha, but there was a 6 week waiting period and about 14 people on the board in front of me, so i told them id pay the 7500 plus all on roads and got an r-jays helmet and jacket thrown in, they agreed, told the next guy he had to have a blue bike not a black one and i picked it up 5 days later. so i was happy with that. actually having the bike then was a bit more important to me than a few dollars.
yeah i imagined that rider skill would have been why it out handled the 600, but im fairly sure these 250 ninjas are quicker in a straight line than the late 90 model CB400s? at any rate, the thing feels a bit sluggish compared to the ninja, however it is a bit smoother being a 4 cyl.
i think the only reason they call it a ZX2r is to follow with the theme of the ZX6R and ZX10R, as the j series ninjas shape is taken directly from the ZX6R and just downsized....

nopes no waiting period for me
had my eye on it for a few weeks and then bought it same day i walked in and said i wanted it

Its at the local Honda/Kawasaki dealer in Launceston, Tas. I frequent it a fair bit and get along with them pretty well.
I bought a jacket, new lid, draggin's and gloves at the same time so i got a bit off them

i havent ridden any other road bikes, so i cant really comment on comparison, but for me it does all i want it to

hums along at 80 got a bit of stick in 1st and 2nd for traffic light gran prix
breaks are decent and handles okay i guess? previous road going bike was a postie so it outstrips that in pretty much every category haha.
big thumbs up from me for a beginners bike

Dear God. I kno Tassie is special, but dont you have 100km/h roads? That thing must be hell scary to try and overtake someone doing 95km/h. Due to its little to no torque, little to no power and ergos... *Shivers*

ive had mine up to 160 quite comfortably and you get a good kick in the backside if you drop it down to 4th or 3rd gear at 120 to overtake someone. the thing only weighs 150 kilos so theres plenty of torque and power for its size.

We've got the best roads in the country for bikes

Theres quite a few roads I visit that are rated 160+ haha

yeah thats what I was getting at!
I VERY VERY MUCH doubt that at 120 dropping it into 3rd or 4th gives it a good kick. I would almost think that I could out power one of those on my push bike... But thats all 250's not just this one... I dont like 250 road bikes....
Have a ride of a 600 and drop it into 3rd or 4th at 120 and feel what a real kicks like

I honestly thought these bikes maxed out at ~150km/h so I dont know wether to believe the 'it cruises at 160' comment...

My old ninja topped out at 175kmh (indicated), and that was the A model, which was down on power compared to the later models. I'm also not the lightest bloke either, so I would expect one of the new ones would be able to reach 160kmh with an average rider. It does take a reasonably long while to get there, but they are capable of it.

The resale on alot of these bikes isnt tooooo bad.
If you havent ridden at all, not dirties or anything, people find these fast, fun and reliable
If you are like the majority though that have ridden anything else before, dirt bikes, even some good push bikes, the 250's are under powered.
Makes sense to me if you are starting out. But there are still alot of LAMS approved old 650's, and below. To me they are what is a better starting point.
Each to their own
