No idea on power dude... but would have to be up there...

The one below (in Australia) posted 523.8hp at 6000rpm, but they plan running around 36lb boost and spinning it to 9000rpm so will be interesting to see power outputs at the end of the day.

Another aircooled beetle drag car being built in Wollongong is planning around 1000 to 1200hp from a 3.3lt flat 4. Good to see cars of a totally different persuasion mixing it up with the mainstream... thumbsup.gif

No time like the present dude...

The problem I found up here was finding the right pre 1967 beetle as they seem to be few and far between. I contemplated a full on drag bug (for which I've been offered a sweet one interstate) but still find it hard to justify that can only be run a number of times a year and not on the street.

Is that a twin supercharger setup on the karman?
NT1200
good find

From the turbo to link pipe between cylinders is at 90 degrees, how effective is this???.... would of thought 2 mandle 90's would of been better..not being picky just thinking better efficiency.... very noice just the same

Yep - twin Autorotor screw superchargers and a shot of nitrous oxide.

His last drag car ran twin SC14 blowers. Unfortunately it ended up on its lid at WSID. Joys of a fast volksie - pretty unstable at speed - hence his upgrade to the ghia and its longer wheelbase.

His old car - http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=bAI2uBxzIXE

Here is another that has recently been freshened up in Australia.

It runs a naturally aspirated 2897cc aircooled flat 4 engine that puts out 315 hp at 7500rpm and 260 ft.lbs of torque at 5600 rpm.

Given the weight of the car it should be good for 9sec passes at around 135mph.

Do it.
Some very cool Dubs running about the streets here lately. And some very nice cars coming up for sale in the south.

smile.gif I don't believe he had a pobjoy engine in it. You can read a bit about it here http://forums.aussieveedubbers.com/viewtopic.php?tid=34339

Stan Pobjoy is still around. I spoke with him a few weeks back (for 2 hours!). He's still playing with hill climb cars, and doing heaps of work. I enquired about him doing work on my 58's engine but he is booked out for the next 4 months. His latest creation is a 1916cc supercharged methonal volksie engine developing 450hp.

Mr Mopar
You'd know better than me Rueb! its been ages since I was in the VW 'loop' I remeber the fenders in particular on the Houndog.. It was in an old mag I had.

Pobjoy had a 71 (ish) Maroon coloured hillclimber back then.. still racing the same car? Couldn't get that vid link to work. Mine was a 1916cc engine, used to surprise a lot of people & I got a lot of speeding tickets hsnono.gif

I'm probaby going to sell my Hardtop a bit later in the year... maybe I should replace it with a beetle...... biggrin.gif

Here is a mates car being put together in Cairns currently.

The engine is a 2443cc aircooled with custom heads from Sweden and wears twin trust t517z's with the 8cm exhaust housing option. The turbos are being setup in a custom 4 stage sequential setup and planned 500hp at the wheels - IN A STREET BEETLE...

The chassis started life as a factory volksie however now wears porsche 944 front and rear suspension, 944 turbo front and rear brakes, porsch 18x8 and 18x10 alloys, porsche 930 turbo 4 speed tranny - and carbon fibre floors....

His project was called 'no budget' but is now called 'blown budget' smile.gif

Mr Mopar
Man... thats gunna b a handful biggrin.gif

Interesting - WRX powered 9 sec beetle.

As for some flat 4's down the strip, hoping to get my aircooled 58 back down there this year...

Regarding Ian going for a 4 speed - the 4 speed 930 turbo box is a bit smaller then the g50 5speed i have in mine...

Doesnt the TA45 look cute next to the 47 lol. Thats what your mate needs to put on his RB stroker motor Reub.

The 20B kombi just recorded 715HP at the treads on 16psi and 98octane pump Fuel!!! That'll suprise a few people on the street...
rx2re
Fark yeah, go the Rotary's.

Ive seen this combi many years ago. Mad Setup.

Ive always had a soft spot for the combi's. But having one with 700 plus HP at the treads is nutz.

Wonder what time he will pull on the strip now.

A few pics from the event I went to last weekend. All VW drag racing action wink.gif
