You can step up anything to drift compentantly - just depends on your cash flow and knowledge.
Oh and skill comes into it aswell.

yeah mate, a ute with th lightness of the ass end would be perfect, bit of cash on the suspension and possibly some engine mods and she should be a nice budget drifter

just do what they do in japan - get a drift car, and turn it into a ute haha - Stagea RS (wagon with an rb25det rear wheel drive), or a silvia or 180 - theyve all been made into utes.
but yeah you can make a ute drift easy enough - same principal as any other car really.

I was gonna go to QR this friday for the drift night but I'm a bit hesitant about the stress it will put on the car. My diff is already pretty fucked from skidding, will drifting my ute affect the diff much?

You rogered your diff for doing skids and you wonder if drifting is going to effect it ........
