So I'm looking to buy one of the new iphones. When i go to purchase it asked me if I want to
'Add Internet on your mobile 200MB' - 9.95 a month extra.
If i don't get this, can I connect to internet still? Through my own personal wireless connection at home?
Will they charge me for this? When you select internet does it default to using there internet?
Will i need there internet if I want GPS etc...
Ta!

You can connect to any wireless network without the 200mb deal, and it wont cost you anything.
Not sure if the GPS just uses the mobile network.

yeah you can. But i recommend you get some kind of data package, as a lot of apps and the gps use it

gps does need the internet as it downloads its maps from google maps.

Assuming that's Optus, the deal is for tethering too..
You don't need it if you're not going to be using your iphone as a modem. You'll be doing well to get through whatever standard bandwidth you go for (unless you go on the $19/$49 cap).

Go for the deal, $10.00 amonth is not much to be able to use your net whereever you want.
I'm posting on my GPRS now.
My $79,00 cap for the iPhone includes 700mb... I never the near that ammount of usage.

you can connect to your wireless at home or a mates place without the deal, but for th 10.00 your better of because a lot of apps use the net and if you are out and you want to use the maps app it connects to the net to download the map.

Even if you don't think you will use it much, it may still work out cheaper to add this data plan to it, rather than pay excess charges if you go over the free 20 or 50mb or whatever they give you as standard.

I hate how Optus charge $10 to enable tethering on the iPhone. It is such a rort. You can get any other phone that also does tethering and Optus won't charge you for it! On 3, I currently have 2gb of data and I pay $69.95/month
I used my old Nokia e71 as a modem when I moved house a few months ago and without downloading anything illegal, I used the better part of 300mb over about 2 weeks.
