Full Version: How To Set Up Camber On Front Of R31 Sedan

Hi guys looking to increase my camber angle on the front of my R31 Skyline sedan.
What is involved? i hear the term 'camber kit' thrown around a fair bit but nothing is ever that easy, right...?
I did a search of the forum but every single thread in drift tech has the word 'camber' in it and lifes too short to read through every single page hoping to stumble across an answer.
.
How much camber is recommended and how do I go about achieving it?
What are the benefits of running a greater camber angle? Should the alignment be set to slightly toe-in or toe-out?
Bear in mind that this is really a track only car - it doesnt get street driven much, is usually on a trailer.
.
Thanks guys.

Hold up...

You have tech member status and you dont know this....

tech member for audio haha... nah im fairly good mechanically, ive done all the rest of the work on this car myself, its just ive never adjusted camber.

Fair enouugh....

Camber kits, they change for each car, but in the case of an s13 or r31, it can be a simple encentric bolt where the strut bolts to the hub alowing it to move the angle, or you can get camber tops that bolt onto the top of the strut and allow adjustment from the engine bay by moving the entire top of the strut left and right.

PS - post in the tech section next time wink.gif

Hmm. 'drift tech/setup'.
Mainly cos im also asking about recommended camber for drift etc.
And cos I didnt want the tech forum guys to know that i didnt know... haha
Nah I will post in there and see how I go.
So with the adjustable strut top, you remove your factory one completely, and replace it with an adjustable one? And it basically moves the angle of the strut in relation to the 3 bolts that secure it to the tower?

Spot on, it reaplaces the strut hat and bolts into the three holes like you said. Then another plate under it basicly bolts to the strut and you move the two plates by losening off a couple of allan key nuts.

you can fit s13 strut tops to r31 struts but you'll have to get some spacers made up as the strut tops will hit the edge of the top of the suspension when cornering. So custom spacers on a lathe $$$ and they will work. otherwise you can buy lots of kits specifically for r31 strut from around the $400 mark give or take. and I suppose they will work without scrubbing. Look on the r31skylineclub.com forums and theres a few tech articles how to do it.

and as for how much camber, depends on each person and car and what you want, probably around -1.5 or somethin im guessing, depends what kinda "track" work you doing and just take it to a wheel alignment place they do it i suppose its trial and error see what you like the most.

Ok so best option is adjustable strut tops - possibly ones to suit S13 then with spacers (i have a friend who is a fitter and turner so might luck out there) or set specically for an R31. Im expecting S13 ones to be cheaper and more readily available than R31 items.
As fair as setting up the camber goes, i might call a couple of places that do suspension etc and find one that has experience with track vehicles, and have them set it up after i fit it, as it will need a proper alignment etc anyway.
