hey guys,

i remember reading on here ages ago there is a way to save a bit of coin when buying a car from interstate.
the car has been purchaced allready ( 1 week ago ) and is in tas, still registered in VIC.

i remember it was somthing along the lines of completely canceling the rego and registering it in tasmania as a new car.
to save a stack on transfer fees. or somthing along those lines.

the car is worth about $20,000 and will have no problems passing pits.

anyone know anything about this?

thanks to anyone who can help.

i think u have 30 days with the vic reg then u have to change it i had nsw reg on my cars when the cops pulled me over i said i have only had it a week lol they cant do much unless the same cop pulls u over every time but to be safe in case like the other post said cash it in cause u cant transfer out of state reg
Jord
u got 3 months to change it but the longer the rego is the more u get for cash. you'll also have to send the plates back to the vicroads ppl.
MookieMadskillz
what is it werny boy !
pipster11
cant be 3 months
cos i know heaps of ppl at AMC (uni) who are from interstate (vic, nsw & qld) and brought their cars with them and wont be changing rego
but thats off topic anyway

if ur have a term address in tas, but ur address is interstate u dont have to change it at all. just keep paying you vic/nsw/qld rego.
MookieMadskillz
do their parents or other family members still live interstate ? i know somebody who ran interstate plates for waaaaaaay over 6 months does anybody remember "nasr20" ?
pipster11
yeah we all have 'rents back home
and down here is our term address
just curios cos i'm brining my 31 down from qld and bcbf getting it run over the pits + i like the rego number (but may put my personalised plates on it)

You WILL pay more if its first time rego as it would go on its original market value instead of the current market value if its 2nd hand. Only way is if you have a receipt stating a 'smaller' purchase price so the change fees aren't as high.

My experiences and knowledge,
If u bring a car down here, Your ment to transfur it within 14 days, So the last cops i had dealings with told me n my mates, the car had been in tas for about 5 months when they told us lol... we drove it round for another 2 months, still all fine, each time we got pulled over we said we didnt long have the car, or goen to transfur it next week or sum shit, Cops dont really care,

Yes u send the plates and whatever papers back to VIC Roads, They issue u a cheque for cashing in the rego, When i did my vr commy from nsw, i just drove around for the 8 months rego, once again cops didnt really care, I think they can defect the car or somthing if they wanna be smart.

Rego in tassy, Simply have ur ownership papers of the car, Get the car pitt passed, Treat it just like a normal tasmanian unrego'd car. If u pass the pits, u go to service tas, Pay ur fee and get ur plates, Pritty simple wink.gif

commy 38, did you have to pay a transfer fee doing it like that?

it failed roadworthy, for a completly legal reason, even after argueing with them and explaning that they had it wrong.
had to come home make a stack of phonecalls, get on the net look up leagal shiz print it all out
and now go back tomorrow to tell them they can go fark themselves,

so anyone know what the go is for getting services ect and keeping a new car warranty without going to jackson suzuki as they are complete asshats who obviously dont know anything about roadworthy legalitys and to put it simply treated my ex like shit because she is a girl.
obviously trying to make a quick buck out of her.

dont want to loose the warranty, but dont want to take the car back to them as they tried to get her to have around $400 worth of work done to pass roadworthy when its all legal to begin with.

I know what you want to do and im telling you it would actually work out more expensive in transfer fee's in doing it the way your thinking mate.

Pretty much any place that does "warranty servicing" can look after her and keep her factory warranty and dont let Jackson's tell you otherwise. My brother services my car (through his business) which is still under warranty from Motors with no dramas and also does all the work on my partners fathers new Peugot thumbsup.gif

thanks gmb.
i thought that was the case.

warning to all, never ever use jackson suzuki, for anything full stop.

Thats for a dirty POS commodore though biggrin.gif

Werner your better off not trying to BS them given its age, its pretty easy for them to check "Market Value" and they will and are cracking down on it...

Also as far as I know insurance companies can/will look at the value put on the rego if/when you need to make a claim, and lower there payment accordingly if you're on a market value cover...
