hey I got my ride defected last night for it being toooooooo low. What a wanker he was he recons my ute is 100mm tooooooo low in the rear. I argued this point with the wanker because it only has 75mm lowering blocks in the rear so even if I take the blocks out its going to be 25mm tooooooo low what a dick I felt like knocking him out and kicking the crap out of him.
Does anyone know what the legal ride height is for a 1994 toyota hilux sr5?
Cheers Chris

geez your a feisty one!
your best bet is to ring the sturt police station or the Holden hill station and ask them. They have a book that tells you what the legal height is for each vehicle.
you own and vehicle that is 15 years old. You only have leaf springs in the rear, believe it or not like all springs, they will sag over time, and yours more-so due to it being a ute that could have repeatedly carried heavy loads in the back.
Either take your lowering blocks out, and stick another leaf spring in, or do it properly and go the whole hog with an airbag kit. My knowledge is that air bag kits are legal in utes and vans. Get it engineered so you have the papers to show them when they pull you over.

Adelaide doesnt have a rule of thumb, eg drive over a coke can or 100mm from the lowest point of the vehicle.
there's a book with legal ride heights for each individual car ever manufactured.
also, did the police officer give you an exact measurement of what your legal ride height should be, front and rear?

yeah he recons that it has to be 385mm on the front and 418 on the rear but the sr5 came out with the 4x4 style rear guards which sit around 30mm lower that the standard guards

if he had the exact measurements for your vehicle. and i am assuming a measuring tape as well, his quota for that night must have been something along the lines of book a certain amount of people for too low.
I got busted down at the bay a couple of years back just after they took out the round about at the end of jetty road. cop car sitting there pulling everything over, and measuring ride heights.
you just drew the short straw. like i said before, if you like riding low, talk to an automotive engineer, and get bagged.

Yeah it's probably sagged over the years. I know someone who bought some super-low replacement springs for a reasonably old car, swapped the stock ones out and the ride height was exactly the same. They get lower over time.
Pretty sure they do have a general 100mm rule, but that's in addition to suspension travel and height which it seems you got done for. It doesn't look heaps low, so chances are you just got unlucky. Either just swap it out and clear the defect, and put a bit more effort into finding a legal way to do it.

Well the rules state the legal measurement is 33% of the bump stop rubber gap.........
But that would be too hard for them to measure let alone bend over..... due to dounuts....
So in there wisedom they decided on this rule.... centre of wheel to bottom of gaurd..... so they have a book on it... I rang up about my Vx Calais international.... and guess what after measuring it I can only lower the front be 5mm and the rear by 10mm what a joke...
The powers the police have in this state is a joke, If they think your car is not legal they will defect it, you have to spend money and waste your time and it may be fully legal... and there is nothing you can do.....
Sure have the paper work and they might say but you coulod have changed it since.....
POWER........
Defecting cars for not having tyre placards on the door.....
If your car sounds too loud..... they dont even have to use a sound meter....
Your car is not even legal if its been chipped, cammed or changed the inlet manifold to after market....
You name it they can do it.
Its the perfect money raiser any you have no come back....
Like to know how some one can defend there mods when pulled over, paper work dont mean a thing.... They just have to feel its not legal and your off the road..
