Duuuuude I feel so sorry for you sad.gif

I know for a fact as well, learnt the hard way recently that the RAA Accreditations are absolutely worthless.

Basically, I had electrical work done at ***. RAA Approved repairer. Bill came to like ~$800 or something.

Nfi why but whatever, money wasnt an issue as my cars been on defect for 1.5 years.

They moved the battery to the boot, checked the wiring, 'fixed the power windows'

Basically my story:

Went to pick up the car, Paid.
Got in the car, tried power windows.
Fail. They didnt react to the controls.
I went in and said, wtf? The windows dont work...
The operator, sent out a little mexican guy from the back.
The guy got in my car, smacked the door around a bit then decided to take the controls off and look at the wiring.
When he finished, it worked. BUT WTF, SMACK MY DOOR AROUND AS A FIX FOR AN $800 ELECTRICAL REPAIR JOB!? FK OFF!

Anyway... relatively dissapointed, got in the car, loaded it on the trailer.
Noticed my fuel gauge was reading empty.
Didnt make sense coz It was full I was sure before i dropped it off.
But whatever, had been a long day, cbf any more.
Pulled into a petrol station, put in $20 of fuel into it. Its all it needed, it was full.

Got home, figured it would be a loose wire or something.
Anyway, Dont really care much about the fuel gauge.

Took my car to Exhaust Technology to ask them to do work, regency work.
Called em up the day before I arranged to pick it up
"Is it ready?"
"Yeah mate, just bolting down the battery in the back"
"WTF!? I GOT PROMISED IT WAS REGENCY LEGAL!?"

CALLED UP THE RAA TO GET THIS FROM THEIR COMPLAINTS DEPARTMENT:
"Look, I'll be honest, If we took our branding off every workshop we've received a complaint about, we'd have no more approved repairers. Times are tough, Its hard to find people who care enough about their job to continue doing it when the wages are so low etc"

Promised I would send in images.

But you know what.

I refuse to.

I'll tell EVERYBODY HOW WORTHLESS RAA APPROVED REPAIRERS ARE. IT MEANS SHIT. ABSOLUTE SHIT THAT THEY HAVE THE ACCREDITATION.

Honestly, I'll now be choosing my repairers based on word of mouth.

Way more reliable, and means more.

im glad i have found a trusted mechanic who is a fantastic guy smile.gif

The RAA said I will have to take them to court. They have no power to enforce anything.
The workshop think because they say the work needed to be done to finish the car they were within their rights to go ahead.
Lodged request for assistance with Consumer Affairs today so I should know by the end of the week where I stand.

Dumbfounded.
skurvy84
what car was this for?

i find it hard that the RAA would react that way, the guy is correct in saying they are unable to enforce anything, they aren't a law unto themselves, but what you might be able to do (if your a member) is ask to speak with are organise a technical liason office to discuss your issue with the workshop.

thats crap they have removed the branding from workshops for less than your issue before, they have removed branding from 2 places already this year alone. if you still have an issue talk directly to the tech advice department and speak to the technical liason guys, once again you need to be a member to use the service. otherwise if your parents are members get them to speak to that department or speak to the legal advisory section.

this shit sucks guys. glad i'm studying cars so i can work on them myself. hard to trust anyone these days.

I spoke to Tony the technical liason officer as I am an RAA member, then he called the workshop and confirmed they went ahead without notifying me (clear breach of the trade practices act and false and misleading conduct). I asked him if they could suggest to the workshop to see reason and he said unless you pay the difference they will either undo work to an agreed value or I could take them to court.

with all respect intended... i dont agree with joining a car forum just to post up shit about a business.

theres 2 sides 2 every story.. and *** also happens to be a very good customer of mine

ive had a gutful of seeing these threads, not needed, not wanted.
Termite
If they tried to rip you off would you be sick of it. The outcome will be posted when consumer affairs and the small claims court make their rulling weither they find in my favour or not.
I'm not saying don't deal with them just be very wary and know your rights.

camc
One joins a forum to seek information and guidence.

It is always different being on the receiving end of the deal, No one keeps dealing with shit customers, Hence nice customer.

One story has been told and theres no need to bag him, Lets just see if there are any other issues with that workshop, or maybe its a one of and a error in judgement on either party.

I am assuming the story was told in facts as if not there would be legal issues.

Lets see if anyone from the workshop as an offical response.

There should be an area for these stories and listed by the offending workshops.

I was a mechanic many years ago, I find it frustrating dealing with some places as there expertise can be lacking and when charging $100 per hour and I have to advise them what to do, it makes me wonder. ( and before the comments start, I dont have time to work on my daily transport, No one touches my toys)

By the way Termite, you need to get them to admit in in writing or have a witness, go to small claims court and file a claim, if you can prove they went ahead without approval then they will have to pay court costs and then you request for payment for your time, keep a record, then the lost time without the car and hardship.

Get onto today tonight, cause as much shit as you can, if they were reasonable they would deal, if they are AR-soles then u will have to fight......

The problem these days unless the ripoffs of the world are made to pay where it hurts the back pocket they will keep doing it...........
TUF UTE
eh...either way i still dont agree with doing what yourdoing ... and im pretty sure you couldget done for slander....

This thread is to give people the heads up not just about these guys but anyone who is unfairly dealt with by a retailer. It always pays to know your rights and with a legal eagle in the family that helps too.
I have emails confirming the breach and 2 RAA technical officers who I spoke to Tony and Todd who then contacted the workshop for their side of the story and both told me the same thing. The workshop clearly broke the law. My legal advice is clear. They breached the trade practises act and the fair trading laws by engaging is deceptive and misleading conduct.

This isn't the first car forum ive been a member of buddy
B3ll3
just to put my 2 cents worth in....

customer service isn't what it used to be, companies who choose not to provide good customer service will succumb to what is essentially word of mouth advertising (be it good or bad)

i think all consumers have a right to be informed of peoples personal experiences 'testimonies' about a service they have received

ideally to avoid the slander side of things, maybe people should create threads about good customer service experiences and promote companies who deserve the credit rather than pay attention to those who do not warrant it

Rookie ROX
Business names removed.

Boostcruising does not permit slander of businesses. There ARE two sides to a story, and unfortunately, we can't confirm who is telling the truth. If you want the names, he can PM it to you.

it happens, iv worked at places before where things have been done to cars that didnt need doing, then charged for. i always just did as i was told, didnt like it but ya gota keep ya job right? women, older people and any bloke who looks like he couldnt change a tyre are targeted, you just cant trust it anymore and are always better off makin friends with someone who will do a good job in their own shed.

Picked up car on the 16th. Job was not completed as quoted. Tune is poor.
Payed $670 over quoted amount and I am still not satisfied with this workshop.
Will be sorted out tomorrow.

In regards to chasing my Claim up with the RAA, I will not be chasing the issue up. The issue exists, but I feel theres no point in promoting the Approved Repairer brand. Its worthless in my opinion and in future I will be giving my business to those who have great word of mouth.

Exhaust Technology is awesome in my opinion.
4GOT10
^^ I concur!, everyone at E.T are champs!

I rate them very highly
kayotic
man you take your car to get a job done so you assume its done bro a pro. someone who knows what to do. If your car comes back wrong well everyone has a rite to know about the place. I mean it could be a one off stuff up butall he was saying was to be aware.
