I've a question - and forgive me if there is an obvious answer.
For quite some time now (3 to 4 weeks?) there has been blasting works going on at the fly over. It is clearly sign posted that there is work in progress and there is a 40 km/hr speed limit on the fly over, which I like many others do observe, particularly as there are workers on the road.
My question is where does the 40km/hr limit end?? And does the temporary reduction as a traffic control device mean if you are over that limit in any way mean you are liable for a traffic infringement?
I ask as the revenue raiser (speed camera) was sited part way between the fly over and Ross Smith Ave today. I'd be interested in feed back, as when past the fly over works I had accellerated (along with others) to 60km/hr.
Guess I'll find out soon enough if a fine has been imposed.....

Technically I think the speed limit stands until the next signposted limit. You might be ok as there was others around and the speed limit is "normally" 70. If there were no signs after the works indicating a speed, I'm not sure where you would stand?
And the amount of people who went past me when I was doing 40 along there (turned left onto the highway) was amazing. Bloody hoons, should have all their camrys, landcruisers and excels crushed....

If you are inbound UNDER the overpass, the two lanes that become four, (the two overpass lanes) make it one of either two outcomes:
a)At the point where the overpass becomes four lanes, the 70km/h limit then applies, as the two right lanes (the two inbound lanes that go UNDER the overpass are already doing 70.
b) the two left lanes remain 40kph until the 70km/h sign further up towards ross smith. The two right lanes remain 70kph as posted.
It can only be one of these two outcomes. A) makes the most sense
but B) generates LOTS MORE REVENUE

speed limit is valid until the next posted limit or end of road work sign i think

May 29 2009, 07:37 PM
Thats the thing, theres no 'END ROADWORK' sign.
sp33d
May 29 2009, 07:38 PM
And if you have to keep it to 40 until the Ross Smith 70kmh sign, the cars in the two right lanes doing 70 are going to have trouble merging to the left lanes...

AFAIK speed cameras are not supposed to be used where temporary speed limits are in place... I'll have to ask a friend of mine who used to operate the cameras though...
I was about to launch into a long winded post pointing out exactly what sp33d posted above... Thanks buddy, you saved me typing it out!!
It is a very interesting scenario though, with the two median lanes which technically should remain 70, unless sign posted to 40 well before the traffic lights under the overpass. It would certainly present a very interesting argument in Court if someone decided to challenge their ticket....

Yeah, i've often wondered what the hell is going on as im up and down the stuart and the overpass a couple of times a day.. Saw that camera van there today, and actually merged from the 70mph lanes, into what may turn out to be 40kph lanes

doin 70 of course......

Does anybody know exactly what it is they are doing??
And why it's taking so fucking long?
It's been 3 weeks and they arent even half way down 1 side, so i guess it'll be finished in oh........ 12 weeks or so.

ok so while we're on topic (kinda)......
was cruising back from town few days ago, and was going through the roadworks at 40, then dropped into 3rd and gave it a little just after passing the 70 sign at nemarluk school. then i saw the happy snap parked up on the other side of the intersection of nemarluk/bagot. usually with road works they cover up other speed signs, but this day, they didnt cover it. so will the 70 sign still be legal? or should i have stayed under 40, even though the sign was there and uncovered. so basically, will i get a ticket?

if i do get a ticket, could i ask them to prove they are allowed to operate in an altered speed zone?

if you know you are in the right, the best thing you can say is "see you in court". Don't say this unless you know you are right though.

This doesnt work, tried and proven.
They take ages to give you the photographic evidence and when you do recieve it it's something that has been doctored and you cant do much about it.
I know this for a fact as lost my licence for 3 months for it.
Doesnt matter how much you pay the lawyer (rip off @#$!), and what they promise you, 99% of the time your gunna loose.

I see the "END ROADWORK" is now up at the "70kp/h" sign just prior to ross smith intersection.
Im still befuddled about the two inside inbound lanes doing 40, and the two outside inbound lanes doing 70, and people trying to change lanes to either turn left at Woolner or right at Ross Smith..
Similar thing if you are heading down bagot road towards the overpass. The far left is also affectd by the 40kph limit, for how long? If you are going to cross Stuart HWY to go down snell street at 40kph, its gonna get ugly when that light turns amber

Or when you try to merge onto Stuart Hwy outbound from Bagot road, thats gonna be difficult at 40kmh.....

Ok. Closure.
Dad and I talked to the officer in the speed van today. He is looking for people over 70kph from where the road becomes 4 lanes. NOT the end roadworks sign.

Speed Van was sitting just after (10-20m) the "end roadworks" sign today.
