Hey everyone this is my ute, there aren't many good photos but ill get some more.
these photo's are of when i bought it, it's now in the stripping down phase for a fresh coat of paint.
i paid 850 for it and i got a spare reconditioned 253, 2 spare doors, a spare bonnet, spare perfect nick seats, spare gearbox, spare wheel wells, and a spare left front quarter panel.
also came with about 6 wheels, i reckon it was a pretty sweet deal.

thats why its called a project, its called a bit of hard work and money.

i didnt mean to offend but that gaping wound would suggest that there is even more rust that you cant see.. wait till you pull the carpet up.. looks like a fun project tho good luck

I have to agree with HK on this one.. with a hole like that, theres bound to be more rust underneath somewhere.
Go back and find my thread on my EK.. have a look how much rust it had before i cut it all out and fixed it.
Edit: I would of gone with the Sedan though.. styleside utes look uggllyyy.

No they dont, Tonner's are overated. Everything's fixable dont ditch it just because there's a little bit of rust. Every old car has rust you cant expect it not too, if you have the right skill's and a decent budget keep with it mate and by the time its finished youll be able to look back at it and feel great about what youve achieved. What's the fun in buying one thats already been built. IMO anyway.

Just my opinion. Sedans look more oldschool.
And yes, there most likely will be more rust.
I wouldn't be surprised if theres a bit of bog in the quarters or doors, cars of its age almost certianly have some, somewhere. Whats it like under the front windscreen / dash? What about lower front gaurds/

That's a good buy mate. I saw this ute advertised on either justcommodores or Aussie V8 forums a short while ago. I thought it was a pretty good deal then, except it was in sydney or something and I'm in melb.
But good onya mate, looks like it really was quite a good deal. And the spare doors (if in good nic) were a score.
You can always look at it like this - I paid 800 for my WB tonner, 202 4speed, drivers side floor is gone, passenger side needs work, amongst other spots of rust.

Good luck with it mate. If you aren't already a member, Aussie v8 forums might be a bit more suitable for your project, a lot of guys doing up WBs and old school cars on there.

mate good start from a project. Just because of the hole doesnt really suggest there is a lot more rust??? iv seen plenty of cars with just the boot out full off rust the rest of the car perfect, or the floor completly gone and guards and the rest of the car sweet.
Depends on where they have been sitting and how the paint was also. To me looks like a perfect project for the money you spent.
To many people are scared of rust! its apart of doing a cheap project with the holdens really. You want one with no rust your looking at more then 800 bucks......

thanks for the enthusiam guys

yea we found a little more rust in the cowl but ill buy some panels of rare spares and weld them in.
it will be like 100 for both cowl bits, there is a spot on the roof, the big hole, tiny hole in the floor and thats about it.
ive rust converted the floor and primed it.
the front end is almost ready to be primed.
both front quarters are sanded back, top of the nose cone, the plates under the radiotor, dunno what there called.
gave the engine bay a degrease and shined up all the chrome parts.
its starting to come together.
ill get some pics tomoro cause i have the day off.
cheers

Hey mate,
Try these guys for your rust repair panels.
http://www.retrorods.net.au/They are heaps cheaper than Rare Spares, and the panels are made here in Aus.
When I was gonna do up my HZ, I priced about 10 sections I needed and the whole lot came to about $350.
I've seen their work, and it looks real good. I've heard that rare spares' rust repair panels
can be a bit ill fitting, although I havent actually had any personal experience with them.

A bit of an update.
I was also wondering if anyone knew what this gearbox is?
Its a holden 4 speed manual, reverse is left and up.
Dad's also making me an engine stand which should be done tomorrow and the other picture is of the block and tackle we used to get the engine out.
thanks

supra/celica probably, very popular box conversion for a 202.. but i dont know the layout of the gears

just a m20 4 speed judging from what i can see in your pic. Its not a celica/supra box being a 4 speed..
carlover333
Jun 25 2009, 09:31 PM
yea its not a celica/supra box, it says holden on the side.
way to old technology in the shifter aswell.
its linkage or teeth or something.
im getting a yella terra 186 head modified to fit a 202 of my boss for free.
all it needs is seats and im getting a cam from my boss's mate.
gunna be pretty sweet.
i also need some starfire rods if anyone has some

Aug 17 2009, 07:27 PM
sorry its been so long since an update guys.
Nah sorry mate, not selling the box, i need it.
change of plans with the engine, its being bored out to 60 thou over because it was already at 40 thou, flat top hyperautectic pistons, bit of head work, 9.5 or 9.6:1 compression ratio, mild cam, 350 holley and extractors.
should go alright, pulled all the rear end apart and re painted it all and put it all back in.
then resprayed all under neath the rear end.
its all nice and black now.
ill get some more pictures soon, didn't end up buying a mig, ran out of money so i might just tow it to a panel beaters and pay for it to get done.
anyone got suggestions on a paint colour? im absolutely stuck
i only got a hk

HOK red.. a nice light blue would be different (NOT any colour put out by holden) choose your own
or something similar to the bottom right pic here
