OK i currently have a satellite internet connection, and Ive set it up through my Dlink DI 624+ wireless router. I have two desktop computers running off the router via LAN cables(not using the wireless).Getting it to work at all has been a mission lately, but Ive since got it working, most of the time that is. My current problem is it decides to just randomly drop out. Happens to both computer simultaneously, and no errors or anything and at random times for random lengths of time.(well it appears to be completely random, haven't timed or anything)
Ive tried reseting the router, restoring to factory settings, updating firmware and so on but still fucking up. I was told that because its configured for PPPoE that might make things abit harder, and hence something isn't setup right and i cant see it. Ive checked everything and i don't know whats wrong.
HELP!

Did your ISP provide the modem? if so call them up and tell them your problem, they will show you how to configure it correctly. maybe you need to change it to PPPoA.
If you got your router elsewhere, call d-link up they will do some trouble shooting with you on the phone and come to a conclusion

Called the ISP, they said nothing wrong on their end. Tried calling D LINK about the router, they said it could be dead so send it in. Its out of warranty so i went out and bought a new one. Still have the problem........
Called the ISP again, they sent someone out to check it out, and they found nothing. Ive tried running the net through the router and straight to just one computer(as the ISP has it normally) and found it still dropped out either way. Dropouts were rarer this way(straight to single computer), than when using the router, but seeing as its just been totally random thus far, that could just be a coincidence.
Ughh what the fuck do i do haha.

Ok. Few questions:
1) when you say "drops out" can you explain what happens? ie. just lose the net? unable to use the network at all? the 'network cable unplugged' box appears?
2) is your drop outs during heavy cloud cover? satellite internet is similar to satellite TV.. with heavy cloud cover you will get drop outs until it clears

not sure what it says, if anything when it drops out, haven't really taken much notice. Will do next time how ever. In a nut shell, its just drops out, only know because of the page load error when you try to go to something.
Its been dropping out daily for the past 3-4 weeks at least, so wouldn't say its to do with weather.

Noticed a very common trend with this lately. Seems to almost ALWAYS drop out when I try to watch a vid on the net, or play an online game.
Like watching something on youtube, or opening Steam and attempting to play a game. Could this be a virus? About a year and a half ago, my parents computer had something similar, turns out they had a virus that would stop them getting any internet at all.

if you still haven't fixed the problem, it could be bandwidth problem, or compatibility issue with the wireless router.. My mate had a D-link wireless (can't remember the model number), and it would drop out everytime he went to download a torrent or watch youtube vids on his desktop. And only way to get it reconnected was to use the laptop and reset the network settings.
Once he changed the router, problem was fixed.

Have tried 2 different routers, one brand new and still didnt fix it.
Even happens when not using a router.

do u have another option besides satellite?

satellite has worked fine in the past. I wasnt here when the tech guy came, but he replaced something on the antenna on the roof. Said he couldnt see anything actually wrong, but he replaced it anyway, just in case.(it done nothing to help)
No real other option. For god knows what reason, cable internet is un available at my house. So satellite is the only way. Im not sure of what the plan is, you think this could actually play a part in it?
ISP is some generally unknown company, is isnt all that cop(have had other minor probs in the past) so next month will be looking into swapping over to Telstra Satellite/Wireless. May cost more, but im hoping that will equal a better fucking service and a better connection.

anyone?!?! Surely there must be some connection to the fact it drops out EVERY time i try and watch a youtube vid ect?
ISP is a bucket of shit anyway, so will probably be changing at end of the month. Will see if this truely fixes my problem.

If it's dropping out on both computers when you try to login to steam ect, it's your modem. Did you buy the same modem? or a different one? I'd suggest asking for help on

Have you got the two computers networked so you can share files ect? When it drops out, check if you can still connect to the other computer. Or also try loging on to the modem when it drops.
If it's only your internet dropping out:
Sign into msn, load webpages, maybe youtube and browse stuff, download somthing.
When your internet drops out, check if all internet connectivity goes down, or just some things.
There should be a light on your modem indicating if it has an established internet connection. And you can try to ping your isp's dns.
Is it a complete loss of internet? or limited connection?
Try dissabling any firewalls on your modem/routers aswell.

Yes both computers are linked to allow file sharing. Havent actually checked when net is out to see if this still works, will do though. When the net drops out, its a complete loss if internet. As if someone disconnected the LAN cable or something.
Also, excuse my ignorance but is the modem built into the wireless router?

i know you can log into the router when the net is out.
