Wanna know if any ones knows anything about tyres and load rating for utes.
Wanted to get whitewalls for my rodeo and have had different info from people.
- People telling me its illegal & your insurance won't cover you.
So how come i see many utes with new rims and tyres roaming the streets?
This means that everyone that has stuck new rims and tyres on their ute that their insurance woudln't cover them?
- Got told, that insurance would have to pay, if the tyres were in good condition.
But if you carry a load and have an accident and your tyres pop you woudln't be covered?
Cheers

Basically the tyres that you put on must match the load rating set by Holden/Isuzu.
Now if your tyres aren't load rated then technically yes they are illegal and making your vehicle "unroadworthy". If your car wouldn't pass the pits with them on then your going to have trouble.
As for insurance not covering you I'm not 100% on that answer. If your tyres aren't load rated then I guess that is giving your insurance company a reason not to pay out, they are a business remember! However (this is the part I'm not 100% on) I believe for them to do this it has to be revealed that the tyres were the cause or a cause of the incident. If you were carrying weight in the ute with the wrong tyres etc. you could be in trouble. However I don't see your insurance company not paying out because your tyres were wrong when say a grand piano falls out a window and onto your parked car. If your tyres were to pop under load and they weren't load rated well, your f*cked to be perfectly honest.
There are two reasons you see utes with rims roaming the streets...
1) Their tyres are load rated. Certain low profile tyres are made with a light truck load rated construction to cater for the mini-trucking market such as yourself.
2) There are tyre shops that will break the law and put incorrect tyres on your vehicle. Anything to save some cash, anything to get the sale. I work at a tyre shop and we don't do that, we have even refused to put tyres on vehicles for just that reason.
Hope that helped mate, any more questions don't hesitate to ask!
