more info on the laptop will help.

if its a big brand like hp/dell you can order the discs. majority of brands will let you send it into one of their repair centres for a "recovery" which simply restores it so factory settings. normally costs $100~150

It's a toshiba satellite.

All the help is much appreciated.

If it didn't come with recovery cd's, it will have a hidden recovery partition on the hard drive. Check your start menu and there might be a Toshiba folder there. In there look for Recovery CD creator or Recovery manager or alike. This will let you create recovery cd's which you can boot from to do a factory restore.
Edit - Create recovery cd's - http://www.isd.toshiba.com.au/71/live.dll/...mp;LISTYPE=True

Also check your manual as you might find there's a button you can press during boot (f8 for example) that will allow you to run the recovery without creating the cd's.

what is the reason behind your desire to reinstall windows on your laptop???

if it's performance issue I'd suggest the following before you re-install windows on it.

Defrag your hard drive
Scan for Viruses and Malwares
Clean up the registry
Un-install softwares you no longer use

if it is still slow, or you want to re-install anyways, try to see if your laptop has a hidden recovery partition. Most laptops have it.
To check this, right click on My Computer > Manage > Disc Management, and you should see a hdd called Recovery Partition listed there, usually between 3-5 gigs (if the laptop has one).

If you can't find one and have to use a copy of generic Windows CD, make sure you download drivers for the OEM parts, as your standard Windows CD might not have all the OEM drivers you need

Depending on how old the laptop is brother just contact the supplier or even toshiba direct and inform them that you DIDNT recieve the recovery discs.

Depending on how old the laptop is brother just contact the supplier or even toshiba direct and inform them that you DIDNT recieve the recovery discs.

They then say "Ok sure, well we can send some out to you for a fee" (anything between $50 and $100). The machine will have a recovery partition.

On my laptop there is an option to 'reset to factory'.
Maybe this is the case with your one too.
