REAL DEAL RACES FOR
DISASTER RELIEF
An idea by V8 Supercar driver David Besnard and founder of Real Deal Supercar rides to organise a ride-themed day to raise money for victims of the Victorian bushfires and North Queensland floods has mushroomed into a major event.
Called the “Real Deal Disaster Appeal”, the Event at Queensland Raceway, Ipswich, on April 26, has swollen into a racing, sporting and entertainment extravaganza.
Besnard, who has finished on the podium at Bathurst over the last two years in a Stone Brothers Racing Ford, will be joined by fellow V8 racers Craig Lowndes, James Courtney, Steven Johnson, Shane van Gisbergen, Alex Davison and Craig Baird who will take people for rides in an ex-Stone Brothers machine for three hot laps.
Since Besnard flagged his intentions to raise money the event has grown into a mega day of all things motoring with a massive sporting memorabilia auction including a signed surfboard donated by 7-times world surfing champ Layne Beachley.
There is a large mix of motorsport memorabilia which will go under the hammer.
“Considering everything has come together in a short space of time it is amazing how big it has grown”, Besnard.
“With a lot of support from Stone Brothers Racing, Queensland Raceways, the Salvation Army and many more, they have made it possible for us to stage this unique way of raising money for the victims in their time of need.
“These tragedies truly have touched the Australian people deeply and it is great to be able to organise something to help out.”
A collection of some of the most notable touring cars in Australia will be there including Barry “Bo” Seton’s Ford Capri and Dick Johnson’s famous Greens Tuff and Tru-Blu Falcons.
Glenn Seton’s Peter Jackson Nissan Skyline which he campaigned from the mid-1980’s has been confirmed as one of many significant touring cars from yesteryear.
The list of some of Australia’s iconic racecars scheduled for the day continues to grow.
For a $10 admission fee, fans will gain access to a packed day of entertainment. Everybody who attends will go into a draw to win a ride in Craig Baird’s 997 Porsche Carrera Cup car or Robbie Bolger’s 1000bhp Monaro drift car. Those wanting the ultimate experience can purchase a VIP package which includes three hot laps in the 700bhp-plus Real Deal Supercar and all the VIP trimmings.
The Event is hoping to raise at least $50,000 for the victims of the Victorian bushfires and the North Queensland floods.
