Whatever you do, learn how to do it right the first time. It's like posture, very hard to correct once you have been doing it a long time. The compound movements are one of the best to work multiple muscle groups and generate power but if you have shit technique you will do yourself a heap of harm. You could even see if someone at your local gym is accredited by the australian weight lifting association to give you some pointers.

some how I seriously doubt there would be lol

but someone came up to me the other day, said he's seen me train, and was watching me doing squats and asked me who tough me and I said "I tough myself, why is my technique shit? haha"

then he said "nah I know someone that was a gold metalist (for something I forget), and you squat just like him."

so yeah tongue.gif and he said the only thing is I go too fast on the way down, but that can be fixed easy.

but with powercleans, I have a feeling I'm doing them wrong, I wanna tape myself so I can see it from the side but i'd feel weird asking someone at the gym to take a vid of me haha

Set your phone to record next to you..Better than taking in a massive video camera from the 1980s.. ahah

Tru-View has categorised this page as Drugs

Same for half of the pages I try to look at for fitness or supplements, it either categorises them as 'Sport' or 'Drugs'.

Only having internet access at work and not at home sucks the big one.

i'd want to check out some of his papers to see if the claims are backed up. Being a budding researcher it would be good to see what samples he is using and different manipulation methods. The journals seem to be high quality but i'll see if i can track down the actual papers.

Hey, yesterday I benched 70+kg x14, 80+kg x10 then 90+kg x4

Is that pretty good?

I'm gonna see how many I can do at 100+kg on Monday.
GreekWarrior

What do you guys do if you fall ill? I've had a stomach bug for a week now, and lost a good 3kg

Not sure how much of that is lean muscle mass (im hoping not much)

But what exactly starts breaking down when you dont eat very much for like a week?

rotor you should be fine, just lost lots of fluid and with it muscle glycogen. Do a bit of a carb load, lots of basmati rice and sweet potato for a couple of days along with lots of water and some electrolytes, and say hello to 1.5-2kg quick return.

rolla is that good for you is the real question here. Don't compare your lifts to anyone elses, or let them compare theirs to yours. Work towards beating your own lifts, we are all different. I want to hear in 4-6 weeks time you are benching 95kg for 5-6 reps :-)

Couldn't find heaps on him. Found two journal articles if you are actually trying to find some of his research.

so close to a 100kg powerclean I can taste it, it's like I'm licking the bar
FiL0_R32
^ so i take it someone's showed you how to lift then? or are you still winging it and getting close to 100kgs? If so damn wait till you get the technique down you'll throwing that big stuff around in no time. Settled on a core routine; swiss ball roll outs, decline sit-up twists, reverse crunches and hanging knee raises. Was in the gym this mourning and theres this one old bloke (50+) throwing around medium weight but damn he lefts the whole gym know about it, the grunts are loud as and he drops the weights everywhere, dunno bout you guys but i dont finish a set until their back in the racks.
GreekWarrior
nah powercleans I think I'm alright

it's squat cleans I dunno how to do properly

10x10 squats are more mentally challenging than physically imo

If you get to the end without a spew, you are doing well.

Well I've been away almost 4 weeks on the trot working central to north qld, so training and diet has gone to the shit. I was starting to drop quite a bit of fat and pick up some muscle again, but haven't gone as backwards as I thought I would. I am down from 89.5kg to 85kg and certainly leaner. I am definately in town and possibly not working much this week, so at least one good whole week of training and eating cleanly. Goal is to carb deplete just a little for a couple of days, then carb load for maybe 3, should put about 1.5kg back on and pull me a bit tighter too.

Did anyone make any of the recent bodybuilding shows? My friend Kent placed 2nd at the NABBA southern hemispheres, but sadly only 3rd in the ANB. I think he was disappointed with his form, especially for the ANB (2nd show). NABBA's he didn't carb load quite enough, very common problem, but sounds like he was not happy what so ever with his form for the ANB. Looking forward to the shows later this year, more friends competing.

PT from my gym got first place on the saturday but 2nd place on the sunday at the last two events. He only came 2nd because he didn't do lat spread properly. Was his first time competing aswell.

ne pics damo?
Damo
Just ask him for permission, so here's 3 shots. First two are from comp, last one is 2 weeks out from comp

synergy
looks good, his shoulders are to small tho

how old is he 30 something?
Damo
Only 29
B Unit
Great effort for his first comp. But now he can no longer do novice, he will have to tighten it up a bit. The level of competitors out there is just getting better and better, which is great to see.
Damo
Syn, the pics don't do him justice. When you see him in person, the shoulders are like first thing that pops out.
Damo
Just had first session of GVT.. holy hell that takes it outta you..

First 5 sets of each was pretty easy, then it really kicked in after that.. 60kg on bench and 22.5 on free weight preacher, forearms never cained so much in my life.

what weight division is your mate damo?

If he did novice they just throw all the novices in together, makes for a mixed bag. He will have to do open class from now on. Some federations go by weight, others go by height, so really depends on which comps/federations he competes in.

But Damo, what is his height approx, and do you know what he weighed in at?

hmm true that. A friend won the qld under 90kg division last year..dont know what the comp was called, it was on the coast and jay cutler was there. I think hes doing under 100kgs this year, hes only about 5'9
Damo
This is my new jogging route. From top of screen to other end is 2.19km, which makes it 4.38km round trip. Did it for first time other night, thought it took forever but was quicker on the way back. Did it again today, because the air was so cold i had to stop couple times to catch breathe, not use to running with such cold air.

yeh damo, i rekon its the area too... i used to struggle in the winter jogging down that area too...
Damo
where did you use to run?

If i keep running i think it goes for another 1km or so, comes out where miles platting road can turn onto gateway motorway, but not right next to it.. Still a good distance though for a non-runner to run.
MIT20
miles platting rd and ford rd

That would be the IFBB Qld titles. Under 90's is the light heavy weight division, he will now step up to over 90's, heavy weight. Anything over 90's, the sky is the limit.
