Hey me mates got a my99 rx impreza and wants to know how much work is involved in converting it to rwd.
what needs to be done or know anything about this? weve heard about some sort of gearbox component swap, which takes drive away from the front?
does anyone know about this or know anyone that deals with this?

Drift yes they do it pretty well to, Ive got a mate that has converted his wrx to rwd and i believe he got his conversion kit from MRT performance in sydney for arround 600 dollars. we fitted it all up in arround 2 hours you leave the box in the car and just pull the rear housing off, we did however have a hoist to use so it would deff take a bit longer without that.
Seeing a wrx doing a massive smoky burnout or drift is pretty damn impresive i must say.

cheers thanks heaps for that mate
just another qsn?
how did the rear diff hold up with all the drive to it?
did he do anything to it or did he just leave the standard diff in?
thanks again

just put a zero degree wheel alignment (the factory specs) on it n set of crap tyres on the rear end and she'll drift nicely in AWD mode .... Ive got a 08 wrx turn trac control off and u slide nice as with a factory alignement .... till fulcrum fitted teins and spent 3 days doing alignments on it now im flat out getting the ass to come out in the wet ....

PPG make an RWD spool and that's all you need for the conversion.
the rear diff will have more strain on it, but if you can get an R180 diff you'll be fine.
Bosnjak Engineering make upgraded billet axels.
pretty straight forward really.
edit: deleted.

its an rx mate so i dont think you guys will have too much prob with stress on the rear end. and if you do just get a wrx one in(im guessing they aren't the same strengt between rx and wrx)

edit: just read it's an NA suby, in which case you wont really need reinforced drive line...but then why bother, you wont be any faster then an NA silvia and it wont drift.
Bullshit.
I remember a certain green NA forester that was converted to RWD and was snapping driveshafts all the time...

As has been said MRT or a PPG do kits, its just a spool that goes in after the gearbox (in the center diff i think?) And yer about 600 and take a few hours to fit.
But as also has been said, why the hell bother if its only NA?

fair enough then.
iv'e never seen an NA suby with a RWD conversion, so i figured it would be ok.
so there you OP do all the above then and you'll be fine.

A fella up here is customising a skyline rear cradle ( diff etc) to fit under the rear of his 99 subi... so he can stop all his breakages... its lookin sexy...

MRT center spool locker use a R33 rear diff (custom install) and custom drive shafts shafts are about $500 a side but well worth it and will never brake.
