Now, this is just an idea i had, not sure if it would even be marginally worth doing.

Now i have cold air intake like a lot of people do. 5 inch in diameter rubber hose that goes from my front bar and points up at my air filter.

i was thinking. to get COLD air in their maybe get a bait trap (like you use in crab pots) and put ice in it, and drop it down into your CAI and when your driving, the cool/warm air (depending on the day) gets cold going through the ice and there fore you have colder air hitting your pod filter.

Now. downsides: ice melting and water dripping onto the ground infront of your tire, 2: having an intercooler makes this idea void. 3: it wont make enough of a difference to bother?

discuss?

ps: idea is for circuit racing

ice would melt so fast i cant see how it would really make a difference, instead why not run a water injection setup, they are easy to make aswell if you want to do it your self, and will make far more of a difference

It would melt quick yes, but if you packed it in there, how would the incoming air get through the ice? tongue.gif

A water injection setup would work better. If you packed ice/water into a seperate canister and injected the cold water, that would work ok.

It would really depend on the application. If this is an aspirated 6 cylinder engine, you probably won't see any advantage. If it is worked and boosted, it would be a worth while investment.

Yeah, as i was typing it I was like: ummmm, there are so many holes in this idea hahaha. water injection setup should be good to look into.

CAPA have a few kits, or you could search online for a tutorial on building your own.

Go & have a look at the cry02 intake system - it's basically what you are thinking of without the water problem drool.gif

They are not bad, but they are more-so aimed at getting the edge off that hot intercooler/radiator. Not really the sort of system you can use to constantly cool the air.
