This thread is loooong overdue. cool.gif

So.

2008 was the best season I can remember in living history with literally everything you could think of and then some thrown into the mix...

2009?

For a start...look at the cars! They look like defective children...God help me when i say they must be the ugliest F1 cars EVER made...

Anyway, lets talk up the pre-season. thumbsup.gif
GreekWarrior
honda is out lol
Sti-SG9
They may not actually be you know.

Mercedes are getting behind them for engines and other tech in the even of a solid backer coming forward to bail the company out.

Spewing it wasn't Dave Richards.
Gate
are the cars 900hp this year?
Sti-SG9
I dont think the number is 900... Last year they were around the 750 - 800 mark but with the KERS systems in place this year, Id imagine they would be around the same figure.

One thing i cant wait to see is how the wheel to wheel action goes this season.

I want more argy bargy - overtaking is the key.

And go you fuckin' good thing Webbo!!!

Put Vettel in a body bag Webmeister!
Michel
Well ferrari has brought out there new car, the others must be picking there brains to bring out something as good.
The aero setups ect on it loook like shit, but apparently meant to be the best for the job ahead? Lets hope so.

Looks like what I'm going to post will piss of some people on here, but Webber is the most over rated driver in F1. Yeah I'm an Aussie but when you don't perform even when the car is running well it's time to get out and let some younger or more talented drivers in.

Timw for Webber to go if he does no good this year!!!!!

I've been saying it's his last year to prove himself in F1 for the past three years or so. The guy is just dead weight to any manufacturer now, he cannot perform, no matter what happens it seems.

I am looking for BMW to make a big big move this year though. Kubica should have all the development of the new car behind him, and with his driving potential, we should see some awesome racing.

A bit rough i reckon...

Cant blame him if he has teh worst luck in F1..puke in the helmet, hydraulic failure after hydraulic failure, Vettel robbed him in Japan, engine in Monaco blew up when he was second... so many more as well.

hes always done really well against ever team mate - Mark kept Heidfeld well honest but i will agree with you on one point.,..hes going to be up against it with Vettel..

That battle is going to make or break him. sad.gif

When he was told he was being replaced at Williams he should have just waited a couple of weeks instead of signing that same week with Redbull and he would have been with Farrari instead.

I do agree with you that having a car that doesn't perform has not helped him.

I have to say that he is a very talented driver and even outperformed Damon Hill on Topgear UK in the wet when Damon Hill drove in the dry in the same car.

I wish him all the best for the season but don't beleive they have the package to do it and will be his downfall.
Michel
Webbers manager is flavio biatore (renult team boss), when he gave him the opportunity to goto renult he should have taken it. Instead alonso took it, and cleaned up.

And now at redbull with quite a good car, i have to agree with "heavy", he should be doing alot better then he actually is.

You've got to be joking me!

Webbo.... @ Ferrari_??? eek.gif

That's impossible... Briatore has always put Alonso the Gonzo ahead of Weebs every time... I just get so pissed when i see Mark cop the shaft, yet again... Much of the time it isn't even his fault!

I also did see the time board and Webbers time was good - shame we didn't get to see the footage.

Dont you think he was mismanaged? I mean, a driver can sometimes only be as good as his manager...

I reckon heaps of good drivers get put in shit teams even if theyre amazing behind the wheel...

Politics...is what got Alonso the seat over Webber i would argue...

And that is a tragedy.

I reckon Webber is every bit as good as the dirty Sanchez but without the silverware. sad.gif

hell yes, heading to melb in march again this year :]
ferrari have managed to make their car look sexy despite the ugly rules!

i'm a big bmw and kubica fan, but this year the rules are going to turn the order upside down! i dont think KERS will play a big part until its able to be used reliably, so its probably going to be pretty much A1GP for the first part of the season

politics got alonso the renault seat? ?! lol so his 2x world championships had nothing to do with it? tongue.gif as much as i like webber youv gotta be realistic. he's harsh on the car which tends to increase the chances of bad luck imho

I mentioned the politics because Webber had a chance to drive a WDC winning car but he stumped for BMW Williams which was the wrong decision in hindsight... Having said that, I would have done the same personally as anyone with an F1 pulse would've loved the BMW Williams combo...unfortunately for Webbo as has so often been the case, the timing and luck of it all eluded him...

Montoya and Schumacher sucked the tank dry by the time he arrived.. sad.gif

One more thing...

How can anyone, in their right mind, think these 09 cars look... good!?

Theyre a bastard child abomination!...

kinda like me... biggrin.gif

webber has just one fail after the next...he wont be any good this year or any years to come...game over man, its game over!

Something along the lines of, "Lets make ourselves the ugliest F1 car ever created", perhaps?

Seriously...that nose looks like its been smashed in...

09' cars caught a serious case of teh AIDS.

All you webber bashers out there you all have nfi imho. He constantly puts his car in the top ten, usually around 7th. When he finishes a race it's usually around 7th. That's pretty fucking good considering who's in front of him. And when he doesn't finish it's a mechanical failure or caused by some young hotshot with zero patience. He rarely fucks up. I dunno why people bitch about him. He's bloody funny when he gives interviews, straight to the point, no bullshit. And he's one of the worlds best drivers. He should stay there until he's 50 if he can. Fuck em!

Reason why webber won't ever get a drive in a good team....he's an aussie and our market is only good for 20 million or so people. Why do you think schumacher was stolen from jordan halfway through the '93 season. The german market is one of the biggest in the world for F1 related products. Thats why South American drivers always get a good go. Not to mention Spanish and as you can see recently, the british.

And while we're talking all things '09, what do all of you think about the gold, silver, bronze idea for race winners. I've heard hamilton doesn't like it because he can't win races. With this system massa would've been '08 champion...because, as everyone knows, massa is the better driver!

Webber's career will always be hampered by where he comes from. Thats the reality.

Beat me to it.

The facts are:

He qualifys well given the car packages he has.

He consistently outperforms team mates with the same car.

He has had horrible luck with mechanical failures or people running into him

He has a great work ethic.

That said I still get dissapointed every freakin time he drives cause im an aussie and want to see an aussie at the top of a sport i love.

Damone
they are back to full slicks this year arent they ?

and no traction / launch control ?

and that Renault looks like shit at the rear.

front i dont mind, looks like. but the rear is hideous

You forgot one other fact:

He still drives stupendously well even when he's got barf in his helmet or burns on his ass cheeks.

Yep - slicks, no traction control, KERS ( Kinetic Energy Recovery System - based on brake system ), lower levels of down force... engine fucking freeze...

That last one is shit but the others actually have me leaking a bit of pee.

I think every single car on the grid this year has been bludgeoned by the fuck-ugly stick and tossed off Ugly bridge into Butt-ugly river. head_wall.gif head_wall.gif

When it rains, it pours. Formula One racing fans spend most of the year watching the same crop of cars running around in circles, until the off season when all the teams unveil their new cars in the same two-week window of time. So after Ferrari, Toyota, McLaren, Williams and Renault have uncovered their 2009 challengers, with Red Bull, Toro Rosso and Force India not expected to unveil their new cars until next month, and with Honda's F1 future still in limbo, the BMW Sauber team have become the latest to join the party.

Called, simply enough, the F1.09, this will be the car in which Robert Kubica and Nick Heidfeld, with the support of perennial test driver Christian Klein, will take on the rest of the field in the coming season. Its form is dictated by the same new aero regulations as its competitors, with BMW's own battery-based Kinetic Energy Recovery System installed underneath. Several teams have stated that, given the short timeframe they had to develop the hybrid system, they may delay its implementation, and Sauber's troubled gestation process was well publicized. Notably absent, meanwhile, from the car's livery this year is longtime sponsor Credit Suisse, the banking giant that cited a change in marketing strategies as its reason for not renewing its sponsorship. BMW Sauber unveiled the F1.09 on Tuesday morning at the test track in Valencia, Spain

It's been a long time since Williams stood atop the Formula 1 world, but back when they were, nobody could take them down. They've won seven drivers' championships, with such pilots as Nigel Mansell, Alain Prost, Jacques Villeneuve and Ayrton Senna – and taken nine constructors' championships just to wash 'em down. But that was a long time ago, and since then the team has fallen far from the top. Could this be the year they come back?

With F1's technical regulations turned all topsy-turvy for 2009, Williams was the first to start preparing. They're also the only team to go with a mechanical Kinetic Energy Recovery System, opting for a flywheel to store recovered braking energy instead of the battery-based systems developed by the other teams. The flywheel is installed in the new FW31, powered by a Toyota engine and unveiled at the new Algarve circuit in Portugal, where several other teams – including Renault – came to test out their new gear. Test driver Nico Hulkenberg was behind the wheel, soon to be joined by lead drivers Nico Rosberg and Kazuki Nakajima, who remain with the team for 2009. Check out the new Williams FW31 – wearing interim dark blue livery for the off-season

Wow, i had no idea they were using a flywheel for KERS.

Thats really got my interest. Wonder is she'll fly?

Really...the only good looking thing on any of these things are those gorgeous looking slick tyres! ohmy.gif

Ferrari seem to be in a bit of trouble...

QUOTE
Scuderia Ferrari chose to unveil its new car for the 2009 F1 season before anyone else, so while other teams were assuredly tweaking their designs up until the last minute, Ferrari's was already out on the track. And now it seems there are some problems with the F60's design.

For starters, the exhausts are being reported as illegal. While the other cars revealed so far have inboard exhaust pipes, the Ferrari's protrude from the bodywork in contravention of new aerodynamic regulations. On top of that, Ferrari seems to be having trouble with its new jumbo front wing, which could explain why, with Fiorano snowed in, the team opted to run test laps at its own Mugello track instead of Algarve in Portugal where the rest of the teams are testing, presumably to be closer to the factory. An organization as large and streamlined as Ferrari should have no trouble fixing these problems before the start of the season, which hasn't even kicked off yet. Looks like this is going to be another one of those seasons.

Go Mark Webber and Red Bull. Hope someone cleans up Lewis Hamilton every race, i can't stand that little prick, also im hoping that if Webber can't win the champs then i hope Fillipe can do it, coolest guy in f1.
StinkyWizzleteats
I wouldn't call them ugly just badly proportioned. As long as it makes for good racing I'll be happy with the changes. Although I think that quite a few cars will loose their front wing at the first corner.
Sti-SG9
We have less than a month to go till race time!

Who likes what?

Im glad Weebs got over his injuries ahead of schedule for one and am really looking forward to seeing how the new regs will shake out on the track.

Any predictions??

BMW looks really strong already and should put up a decent fight in the Mac / Fezza ring...
aristo
my vote is on bmw coming up and strong this season, and ferrai being the one to beat, per usual lol

interested to see how Renault goes this year

I'm more looking forward to the start of MotoGP. F1 hasn't really done anything for me over the last few years, since Michael retired. I do look forward to watching some good racing this year though.

As for Webber, I would like to see him get some quality results..but I can't see it happening, the top drivers are just too good.

im quite the opposite, watching schumacher win every race got boring and too linear. seemed like there was no competitiveness. now however theres some competition in it and will kers it will make things ever more interesting. last season was a nailbiter.

i started watching wrc (more exciting then f1 oopsie.gif ) but now as sebastian loeb keeps cleaning up titles it too is getting boring. was so much better in the days when 3 teams were battling it out for the title from rally to rally.

OT: im looking forward to seeing kubica this season

I am just really hoping that Kubica gets a good run this season, he's a very skilled driver and has a lot of potential. Great to see Honda still racing this season too, would hate to have lost them!
