I got a quote for a Canon 450D & 40D DSLR with 17-85 USM Lens ($1479 & $1699).

Since im a total noob when it comes to DSLR's I was wondering what you guys think is better to buy.. Should I stay with the cheaper 450D ($220 saving) since I'm a noob, then upgrade later to a better model. OR should I go straigh to the 40D since its current at a great price compared to the 50D ($2249). Is it better to buy the 40D since it has the magnesium boday (more durable), then to buy the 450D which only has the plastic body? The only thing that I dont like about the 40D is it only takes CF memory (SD for 450D) which is about 4 times more expensive then SD memory.

Any helpful hints would be great.

Go the 40D.... if nothing more for the better construction with the body. $ hardly play into it at that price for consideration.

CF will write faster than SD. You'll be glad later. Even cheap CF cards will write quicker than SD.

Go to cheapchips.com.au A 2 Gig Sandisk II is only $29.00 and is a good brand

A 4 Gig is $43.00..... their giving them away.

even though your new to the whole camera thing a 40D is a much better camera. so even if your not using either to their potential a$200 differance is shit all.

go the 40d for sure. CF cards are not that expensive

but ask yourself do you really need that type of camera because even if you get that lense you will also have to fork out again for another larger zoom lense. the $$$ add up. especially when you could buy a camera like a canon g10 for a lot less and still have a very very good capable camera

well 1 ur getting ripped on the price for the 450D as u can get twin lense kits for less than that, but again i would go 40D as of its better phototaking ability and its a more semi pro camera then a amature camera as they are now advertising the 1000d and 450d.

but as tyler said what are u wanting the camera for if u only want to take good photos of still objects and not get intofull photography then a G10 would be the best camera for u have found em for under $800 and from what i have seen u take the same if not a better picture then a 450d and its 14.7Mp

all come down as ive been told u buy a camera for what u wanna use it for not because its more expensive or the best of its type, if u dont need a 1d then dont buy one,

adding ebay is ur friend for CF cards lol got 2 4gb extreme 4 sandisk (45mb/s read and write) cards for under 100 off ebay lol need more only get 300photos to a card on the 5d

Yeah Khanh, I agree with the other, CF cards are really not that expensive I dont think considering what they were.

I know about the price of the kit with a twin lens kit. but from what I understand the 2 lens' you get in the kit are pretty shit compared to any USM lens. Hense those twin lens' dont come as a kit for any models that are 40D and up.

I dont even know why your considering the 450D when you can get the 40D for 200 more.

seriously, just pick up a 40D and then hold a 450D....it just isnt the same. Its so small and tiny and the playback and image reviewing features are so shithouse.

Done!

I just pickedup the camera, 17-85mm USM lens, filter, extra battery, batt grip & 8Gig ultra CF card for $2030!

charging the battery now then I'll play around with it smile.gif

40D? very nice!!!!

For Sh0w! I got it from camera house in the city. They shit on Teds & Harvey Normans prices. For the Camera & Lens they were only $50 more expensive then Cameras Direct & I get a AUS Warranty. For the Battery, Grip, filter Camera house was cheaper then Cameras Direct.

What things do I need to buy now to keep the camera nice and clean?

Oh Battery is fully charged now.. time to play!
Kane
Camerasdirect have the same at $1982. But being down the coast pretty much just equals out on fuel costs.
