I like 4 & 5 personally. As for #1, try Hyperfocal distance focusing, whats that? Well what you do is, use a high aperture like f8-13 and then focus 1/3rd of the way into the frame rather than just on the distance or the foreground, this will give you sharpness throughout the frame

.

Cheers.. I'll have to try that next time

All the rolling shots are the result of me hanging out the window. The ones in the dark are at night time at slow speed the ones in the day time are at high speed.
I received my new lense last week

sigma 18-50 EX DC with constant f2.8. Loving it so far but due to work i haven't had much time to play around with it. I might be shooting a wedding this weekend so that should be a fun new experience.
Here is 3 shots i've taken with the new lense.. Let me know what you think..

I like the last two, sunflowers on black.

Apr 14 2009, 09:06 PM
Any chance you could resize your photo's?
It's really annoying scrolling left and right to look at the images.
Other than that, it's looking good. The last two sunflower shots are the best.
Keep it up.

Sorry some of them are a bit big. I'll try making them a little smaller from now on. I'm just trying to get as much feedback/criticism as possible so that i can improve. I figured no point posting up tiny pictures which hide all my flaws.

Alright, well, in the effort of some sort of CC, I'll tell you what I'd do to these photos to make them more to my taste.
I'd give a little non-destructive dodging and burning a go, to bring out the creases in the leaves and also to brighten the middle of the sunflower as it's almost as underexposed as the background BUT they may be because of the type of flower it has a black center? but it may also be the light.
Just my opinion, oh and try and make shots at LEASE max 1000x on the longest side, if my shots are of portrait orientation I use 1000x for the vertical or if they're landscape I generally (if i remember right, use 800x for the longer side) to cater for those people who are - Naughty! Naughty! and skulk at work on 800x600 res's.

Thanks for the feedback Nick. I'm currently working on a stone age computer which takes about 30seconds to crop an image, however i'm looking into building a new computer within the next couple of weeks. When i get the new one up i'll have to
download purchase PS and give that dodging and burning a go. I can picture in my head what you mean but with my current set up its near impossible

. I'll post some edited ones up when i get round to building the new PC.

Going to get a quad core setup myself. If you have knowledge in building computers hit up www.umart.com.au.
I quoted a very reasonable price for my new system. Quad core 3ghz 4gb ddr3 ram an over kill graphics card etc.

I work fine with vista on aero ahaha

Umart are over-rated and over-priced. I buy from MSY.com.au, can't beat the prices and with a store in Brendale it suits where I live vs Milton which is always crowded :/
I've got a AMD 64 athlon X2 5200+ (2.7ghz)
6gb DDR2
ATI HD3850 256mb DDR3 PCI-e
and it isn't enough for me, either going to trade up to an Nvidia GTS250 1GB card or go quard core dirty Pentium, Intel is as bad as Nike though :/
Anyone wanna buy my 3850 video card? still retails for $180-$200, selling for $100!

So much ram is generally useless. XP only picks upto 4gb of ram doesn't it, likewise with Vista?

XP/Vista 32bit only detects 3.25-3.5gig and for 64bit, depending on motherboard.. up to 128gig (depending on motherboard of course)

You could always go for Windows Server 2003 Enterprise Edition SP2 64-bit to take advantage of 2 Terabytes of RAM.

But just to add to what Lance said, it depends on what edition of Vista you are running: Home Basic is limited to 8GB, Home Premium is limited to 16GB and the other editions (Business, Enterprise and Ultimate) let you get all the way up to 128GB, all are still dependent on the MB capabilities.

I had a second go of that bird

This time it just sat there and would not fly off

I think they came out better than last time however.. CC please
Nick_
Apr 22 2009, 12:05 PM
Well obviously a better shot being front on, however I think the bust on the left is distracting and it's a shame its back is to the sun as it's front has fallen into shadows and at 200mm I think your onboard flash would've done nothing for fill at that distance.
SR33
Apr 22 2009, 12:33 PM
I would have tried to fill just the bird in the shot rather than whats on the left (all that empty space)... But thats just me..
But otherwise like nick mentioned the shadows aren't helping the pic

But i guess not your fault.. Unless you moved around more..

Apr 22 2009, 06:09 PM
No idea why the exif says flash was used.. weird.. i just took some more shots and it still says flash was used.. any idea as to why this might be?
As far as location it was a bit of a bummer and the only way i could have been closer to it was to stand underneath and imo photos taken level to the subject look far better than those taken from below the subject. Thanks for the feedback guys.. its probably a hard one to CC due to the main problems being location based which is not controllable.
On another note here is one you can CC.. I saw the sun hiding behind the cloud and thought it would make a good photo. And no... Flash was not used :S

Hey now that's a nice shot! I think I'd have let the Kayak Krew go. Clone 'em out, it won't be hard.
dec540
Apr 22 2009, 07:47 PM
I took shots before the kayaks came but i kind of like them in the shot. I think just the cloud looks boring but with the kayaks there it gives the photo more depth. dunno.. heres the one without the kayaks.. lets have a vote!

A couple of things. If you are going to take pics of a car, get a good back drop. An angled driveway in suburbia is not the place.
And with the cat, get right up in it's face and don't look down at it, look straight at it....
And that remote control boat.... not the best subject in the world...
