How to take off your turbo - this is useful for replacing turbo/exhaust gaskets.

Things of what to do, and what not to do!

IPB Image

First undo the two bolts connecting the front pipe to the catalytic converter... as you can see I have a special high flow
cat... Note: this is just a racing pipe used for on the drag strip, I have a fully functionaly
highflow cat that i bolt up every time i come home from the track.

IPB Image

Now undo the nuts that connect the dump pipe with the turbo. The yellow circles
indicate the appropriate nuts... Note: That red residue all over the gearbox
housing is due to my water line for the turbo springing a leak, i fixed this
with two clamps and a high pressure hose wink.gif

IPB Image

This is a shot from underneath the car and the yellow circles indicate the
appropriate nuts to remove.

IPB Image

Finally gone the dump pipe wont bother us anymore! Just dont start the car like
this at 10pm like i did! hehehe... Note: I also attached the nuts back onto the
turbo studs so they dont get lost...thats just me though

IPB Image

Next step now is to drain the oil, alot of people suggested you didnt need to do
this as well as draining the water, and perhaps you dont. However I did it to
make the job less messy and i regret not draining the water lines as well!!!

IPB Image

Now I am removing the oil return line from turbo to sump. The clamp is circled
in yellow to make it easier to identify. This was easy to remove the clamp
however it was a bit tough to slide off the actual metal barb that comes off the
turbo...

IPB Image

Stupid me forgot to take more photos, but wat eventuated was, u put the new
thermostat into the engine. Attatch the self adhesive gasket to the thermostat
housing. Then you attach the housing so it looks like this.

IPB Image

Okay, this next picture looks a little weird, but this is the water drain line (i
think) in the middle of the turbo between the exhaust and compressor housing. I
have also started to remove some of the nuts that hold the turbo to the manifold
as well as taking out that ("banjo bolt" i think its called) draining the water from the turbo back to the motor...

IPB Image

Just disconnect any intercooler piping you have now as we are almost ready to
take out the turbo......

IPB Image

As you can tell by now i have fucked up! This is what NOT to forget....dont
forget to remove the bastard OIL FEED!!! its best to disconnect the oil feed at
the motor as its very easy to get to. And thats basically how to remove your
turbo and dump/front pipe...

Thanaks d3ano304, the turbo is $500 firm I already have one buyer but they are interstate and i preffer to sell in bribane than having to fuck around with shipping...

NOTE: The turbo was checked out this morning by a reputable and well known workshop thats doing my car and it is in perfect condition! (3.4.2004)

Im expecting anywhere from 270-300rwhp with this new turbo, but on stock injectors and computer...

The thing is i have an internal 500hp fuel pump and an external 600hp fuel pump with surge tank and a sard fuel pressure regulator so it will help the fueling with stock injectors....

however once I get my power fc and sard 850cc/min injectors im expecting 350rwhp+, that should be happening in about 3-4 weeks...

Then i might get solid lifters, and a new head for my car and put in some stage 3 cams and see if it wants to push 400hp at the rears...

with my old setup, single fuel pump, T28, fmic, exhaust, boost, etc etc, my car ran a pb of 13.00@109.2mph...that mph is good enough for easy mid to low 12's if the car could get traction!

That turbo wouldnt fit next too the SR20 in a lo mount and is also a different stud pattern id assume its gunna be a custom highmount

New turbo is in....

It makes similar horsepower as before however on much less boost i.e. its making aroudn 250hp at the wheels on 8psi of boost...

But it is a little laggy...full boost is at around 5500-6000rpm however this should drop about 300-500rpm once my computer arrives within the month...

One major side effect is the fact that the Airflow meter is causing me MASSIVE dramas, i.e It stalls alot and it sometimes cant even idle! This is due to the fact that the turbo is too big and the computer cant handle it, also because i put the airflow meter really close to the turbo is another factor of it mucking up...

So for the time being its just a lag monster, i'll take a few pictures and post them up soon...

That's quite a large turbo you have there!!!! Car should see some good number's once it's on!!!!
Chucky

Hrmmm...

92 * 16 * 0.016378 = 24.1 litres! huh.gif

GT4
that should chop. i wish i had cash for a bigger turbo
Rob
whats happening with the car, is it soughted and do you have timeslips....
Silly Silvia
i thought i would update now lol...

The car has run a best of 12.9@124mph on 18psi of boost with a dead stock motor - power levels where at 300rwhp on PITS dyno.

I have made more power due to a set of cams (power went up to 330rwhp on 17psi) on PITS dyno so trap speeds should be good for 127-128mph...

Currently re-building the motor and hoping for 135mph+ trap speeds and later on perhaps getting a 10 on street tyres..
