I would say that yes you do need a manual licence... but never the less its a good idea to get a manual licence anyway...
By the way, your not thinking of putting a *UBER EXPENSIVE* sequential box is the camary are you.... Dont even bother if so...

yeah you probably need a manual licence, but I've never seen a cop bust anyone for having an auto licence and driving a manual! Even when trying to give hoons tickets!
Don't rely on that though

cheers

It doesnt shift gears by its self, its not an AUTO, its a MANUAL, so yes you would need a maunal licence.

I would be more worried about liability if you were in an accident than if cops gave you whatever shitty 50 dollar fine they might throw at you. I'd imagine your insurance company would be able to claim that you breeched your policy by driving without a proper license leaving you to take care of the bill. I don't even want to think of personal injury if rego has similar clauses in it. Definately not worth risking.

what sort of sequential shift are you looking at, for what car would it suit, what power level would it be producing and why do you want it ?

Alfa Romeo classify my car (147) and all other Selespeed equipped Alfa's as automatics, despite the fact theyre an automated manual 5 speed 'box lacking a torque converter etc. And most sequential gearboxes (mine included) have an auto mode, where the computer takes over if you're feeling lazy (or are on the phone).
As far as I know theyre considered automatics, which baffles me.
