So, ive been wanting to get a new camera for a while, im currently using a 400D with the stocko 18-55mm lens, and i have saved up a bit of money from now wasting every cent on my car.. Yipee! So i have been contemplating getting a body upgrade, so me needing the latest and the greatest, im looking at the 50D.
The best package i have found is this one:
https://www.camerasdirect.com.au/index.php/christmas-gift-ideas/canon-eos-50d-twin-is-lens-kit.html
Canon EOS 50D Body with Canon EF-S 18-55mm f/3.5-5.6 IS (Image Staiblizer) and Canon EF-S 55-250mm f/4-5.6 IS (Image Staiblizer) Lens Kit
The lenses it comes with in this pack seem like a good base, for only 600 on top of the body only purchase price. How are these lenses? I know they arent L spec, but im thinking they will make a great base as i slowly purchase something better.
I love shooting motorsport, but i really enjoy portraiture (sp?) and grungy sort of urban photography. So how will these lenses perform?
I will also be looking at purchasing a flash with the camera, Probably leaning towards the 430EX II. Is it worth spending the extra money and getting the 580? or should i stick with the 430 as i wont be doing any super duper flash work just yet.
So pretty much, what do you guys think of this setup? I cant seem to find anywhere else cheaper, or offering a similar package.
edit:
OR!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Im also considering keeping the 400d, and upgrading my glass. In mind i have the 17-40 F4L, and a 70-200 F4L.....IS or not? + a 430exII
I think this would be the most sensible option, buying great lenses like this then upgrading to the better body in a couple of months...
What would you do!!!

If youre set on getting a 50D do it, they look like a sweet camera.
I have seen some sweet shots thou with the 400D and some good glass. For the money youre wanting to outlay you can get some decent L series lenses and the flash.
As for the flash, 430EX would be sweet unless you need the weather proofing! But the 580EX is a good model (I have one).
Need any help Jared, contact me over msn mate.

Invest in lenses, bodies will always be outdated by a predecessor.
If you want to buy new body go for it, but i say lenses first.

with t he way the aussie dollar is atm i wouldnt buy anything to do with cameras, seen the prices go from like $400 for a 580ex to $600+.
but i agree with dave and damo we all start off on lower model cameras and then move up to the higher mega pixel better featured cameras
but i some cases u can get the same photos as a good camera on a not as good with having good lenses.
i have had a 350d for teh past 3almost 4 yrs and have only just gone for a 5D and ive had to relearn how to use the camera as the new features in the camera are far higher then in the more simple 350d (my sister who has done a photography corse would rather use the 350D).
but the thing u gotta look at is not going for the 50d because u can but going to the 50d because it fits the kind of photos u wanna take, the better and more expensive the camera doesnt mean it will take a better photo is all applications, my 5D can do sports picks but its not as goo taking them because of its slow FPS. but my 5D is full framed so my profile pics and landscapes will look better then a crop body

Glass > body any of the day of the week
Grab a 2nd hand 30d, grab one or two of those F4 lenses you're looking at.
And do what Dave said and practice. Gear won't make you take better photos, but lots of practice will.

i was always under the conception that you upgrade your glass before your bosy aswell. glass is always going to be awesome, but new bodies come out like twice a year!
anyway you did buy those lens so personally i think you made the right choice
