Gday,

Been a member of these forums for ages now, I check here pretty regularly, anyway... I've never shared any shots here, so I thought I would throw some up.

Been taking photos for a long time now, I'm 22 years old and live in Sydney.

Technical Specs: I use a Canon 1DsMk2 16.8mp Full Frame DSLR, Canon "L" zoom lenses and a lot of flash work off camera using radio triggering.

Do some studio work every now and then but my main focus is on location.

I post a lot of more detailed, and technical information on my blog for reference material.

I hope you enjoy my images.

Chris.

Mmmmmmmmmmmm GT-C.. oh and Mmmmmmmmmmm GT-R.

I was watching that vid of you shooting and I noticed you used a strobe to lite the background and not as a rim light so to speak, as in it's not fired on the subject from behind. What would you do if you didn't shoot a car against a wall, say it was at night and the car was in an open area?

I've also noticed practically zero hot-spots on your shots. Do you just keep adjusting the output of the flashes vs shutter speed (less power on flash longer shutter) until the output it weak enough or do you try and angle the lights and your shots so they are obscured by the car's features? As in the middle shot where the reversing light is taking the brunt out of one.
matt mead
nick im pretty sure it will be mostly due to lighting position and angle of the camera to the car... and maybe some cloneing...

so chriss this is the infamouse GTR that scared the shit out of you lol tongue.gif

Good question, I don't think I would ever really shoot a car against an empty background, I believe the location is just as important as the car a lot of the time, So I do often use a flash to rim the car, but it is a very subtly look and barely noticable without a long distance between the car and the BG so then DOF becomes a factor, In an intricate background such as these having a slightly OOF look to the BG can look a bit stupid, I'll either try to completely seperate the car from the background or make it as one, no sort of inbetween.

I fire the lights into the guards of the car, it is non reflective and hence no highlights, I also shoot with the flashes a long way from the car. I have a pretty good idea where to put them each time now.

Thanks for the comments.

PS. Matt this is the car, I've been in some bullshit fast rotors but this car from 0-100 was insane!

You are my new rollmodel

Also you mentioned after the shoot with Mark Pakula you now know why to turn a cars wheels to 39.999 degrees.. Can you let us know why?
brasher
hahaha that was just a lame attempt at Humour, but yeah there are certain rules I "abide" by when shooting, and the wheels at around 40deg from the lens is one of them, just good practice I suppose.
JuStDaVe
def one of my fav photographers. keep it up chris have to catch up when a) you come up or b) i go down

lol,the good old rules... its funny how its just common sense but you dont do it until someone tells you about it lol

-like move brake caliper inbetween the gaps in the rims
-shoot on the side with no petrol cap

I hear you go down all the time Dave, especially to 'see' the boys.

Matt, how do you move a brake caliper to fit in a gap in the wheel? I know mine are bolted on..

As this is a predominately QLD forum I thought it would be best to ask here, I'll be heading up to the Gold Coast to shoot a few cars on a bit of a whirlwind trip on 28/29 of Nov.

Only thing is, not been too familiar with the Gold coast besides clubs and strippers I don't know my way around too well.

I'm in need of some locations to do my shoots, at the moment I plan on getting up there on the Friday and doing a night shoot for the first car so will not have any time to do any scouting.

If anyone has any leads onto some suitable locations within the GC area it would be greatly appreciated, I'll have a car so it's no major hassle. But as long as it's semi close to the Gold Coast.

Cheers.

Mate your shots are amazing. The quality is just stunning!
Just wondering for your shoots do you use a light set up or a long exposure and do the run around with a strobe etc?
Love your work
