The last shot is my fav, even though I think it's a tad over-done with the tilt, the ambient lighting has done you a real favour and made the ute stand out, well done with the comp in that frame too, killing the blue sky to really being out the ute.
Another thing, resize champ!
1 To me, seems to have DOF that should be wider as the arse of the ute is out of focus, if you flick open a mag and look at another static shot, you'll notice all of the car is in focus, by using a narrower (larger the number) aperture you'll keep more in focus but most likely loose the ability to shoot hand-held (unless it's a real sunny day). Something like f/8 is a decent sweet spot for most lenses. Perhaps framed a little too tight as well.
2 Has interesting composition, if more of the building was included perhaps? Shot protrait rather than landscape might've done it.
3 Well I like the creativeness with the flare but unfortunately with the car in the shadows, the lens flare really steals the whole frame, a shot like that would've probably worked with a strobe set-up, check out Kyle's latest thread, he's got a couple set-up shots of a commo he shot with his strobe kit, also notice how he's done what I've mentioned, keeping all the car in focus with a narrow aperture.
Nice work mate, better than any static car shots I've done, learn from the strengths in the last shot, watch the movers and shakers on here and you'll be running the joint in no time.

Personally I like the clean edit with no noise or "digital grain", because TBH it looks nothing like film grain, it just looks like noise. The crop is better with the noisy shot but.

Hey man, i think this is an awesome subject! I would never have thought to shoot something like it.
I think the middle shot is my fav, probably because there's a large shadow in the first shot, you should photoshop in a fake reflection in the second shot!

sweet dude
could do with a bit of a tweak in photoshop to bring out the colours and sharpen a bit maybe?
ps, dam you for being so close to snow
im not going skiing till the 30th

where abouts are you atm?
Nick_
Dec 14 2008, 11:07 AM
Number 3 is my pick. Place looks like my sort of paradise. Never been in or even seen snow (live in Brisbane :/) looks awesome but.
as for CC.. Pity about the dark skies and haze that may in fact be snow (I got no idea) which kind of kills your view point plus running a high ISO and wide aperture.. Dude go buy a cheap-ass tripod and snap off some HDR's.

Happy New Years!
back from switzerland
here are some old images that have been put through photoshop.. some from freiburg and some from switzerland.. not happy with a lot of them.. ISO has killed some of them..
I have a sig (going to work on it a bit) now and smaller image sizes..
As it is a new year i need to work on sorting out photos. At the moment my file management is shit.. need some people to share how they sort their images out.. i work with a mac and use iPhoto a bit...
also RAW or high quality jpeg??
Nick_
Jan 1 2009, 02:51 PM
I use Adobe Bridge to browse pics, I sort my stuff very simply. The new shit gets downloaded by the EOS util to a folder in my photos folder called 'yet to be classified' then i go through them in bridge which can also be used to set off HDR's and pixel-peep (or rather 100% view in a small, movable window), side-by side compare and rang in 1-5 stars etc..
then once it's all done i either throw them in a generic '200X' (e.g.2008) folder or something like cars etc.. which i probably shouldn't do as it mixes happy-snaps and the rest..
That's how i do it!
Man that snow looks unreal! RAW vs Jpeg, i'm on RAW's side, you can create composites easy (eg that street shot you could just run the exposure slider down -2 and see the sky, run that off as a second jpeg and then mask in the sky), but each to their own. Some people seem to champion JPEG as the digital film in the sence that, if you screw it it's lost for ever but the only thing i think they're screwing is their own time by not utilising their gear to it's potential. Lame.

anyone got anything to say!
good or bad shots?
anything i need to improve on?
Nick_
Jan 7 2009, 07:03 AM
#1 comp is good but the sky is nailed, perhaps try masking it in? actually all of them the sky is a flat great, is this just what the cloud cover is like?
Try and perhaps grab a portrait of a lone pine tree covered in ice, that'd look pretty cool.
I find those shots, apart from #1 (and the other version which is not shining for me) lack focal point. Perhaps the shot with the horse, make the horse the subject, go down and shoot it if you can getting all the icey shit in the background etc..

Nick_
Jan 28 2009, 06:57 AM
Yeah that is pretty nice! The building seems a little flat, not a lot of contrast, probably the freezing air (i noticed the water has ice in it).
