Hey guys, seeming as my thread keeps stuffing up and can't get to the correct page number, ive decided to start a fresh thread.
Just to update, my external harddrive Maxtor 320GB shit itself about 2 weeks ago now, and all my photos are on it from when i started taking photos on my phone. Hopefully sometime towards the back of this week i will be able to get to the coast for a shop to hopefully retrieve my data.
Recently just did the antenna mod on the ebay triggers, and so far so good. Put 1x550EX mk2 outside my house and ran about 150m down the road with the normal trigger (i have 2) and tried to trigger it, and didnt see any flash, did this a numerous times, no flash fired. Put the antenna modded trigger and fired 4/4 times which im happy with.
Any questions on mod ask me in here and ill post up the sites, (vid tutorials) soon!
Thanks...

Here are 3 Images...
1st one is a 1st shot with the off camera flash setup, using 1 flash to the left of the can - Vivitar 285 at minimal power, will do a better shot of it using another flash to the back on the right hand side
2nd one is just a muck around shot i shot last night of my brother
3rd shot is my trigger that is modded fitted with a 433/mhz 1/4 wave whip antenna. Used 1 580 mk2 on the right shooting through umbrella at +0 ev, and one vivitar 285hv shooting through a umbrella on the left at lowest power.

Recently took my external hd to Ontrack Data Recovery located West End.
Took it there early last week to get an evaluation which was 99$ which includes them looking at the harddrive and seeing what is recoverable and how long it will take and also a full quote.
Got the reports back early this week on monday with a good result with everything recoverable 199GB's of data, the cost wasn't very exciting but im glad i got it all back, if you ever have a hd fail go to these guys they are located all aroud Australia and are excellent.
Will be updating soon, also Autosalon this weekend, should be ok.

90% of the time you can just do it yourself

to save the pain of paying that sort of moola!
caseyjohnphotography
Oct 16 2008, 05:12 PM
wouldn't even think of doing that sort of stuff myself
take apart the harddrive and a tad of air gets in it, its gone

Yes, there is no way you'd be opening the casing and exposing the platters, but there are many other methods you can try before that

the harddrive was dead, wasn't spinning at all
it was fudged pretty much only thing i 'could' do, anyway got my stuff back so its all good.

Now I hope you've learnt to always have a backup!! And also to stay as far away from maxtor/seagate as possible!!!

Had a Maxtor 320GB and opened it up and it was a Seagate.
1. I No longer trust 'Maxtor' as it wasn't a 'Maxtor' HDD
2. Seagate died on me
'Lacie, WD' ftw

Maxtor was bought out by Seagate sometime ago. So they are still producing Maxtor branded products that have Seagate drives inside.

If your data is that important that your willing to spend 1558 recovering it i would highly recommend you invest in a Drobo.. They are amazing!
