I did look for another post detailing similar info, but couldnt find anything so thought I would add my experience.

I have only just recently upgraded from an older canon 300D to a 40D, and shopped around alot to ensure I was getting reasonable value for money.
The two place I had found to be offering the best value were;

Was very little difference between the pricing of these two companies. I was leaning towards camerasdirect due to being based on goldcoast.
I did end up going with d-d-photographics, only due to the fact that cameras direct didnt have 24-105 kits in stock when I was looking to purchase.
I placed my order on a thursday afternoon and had everything delivered by overnight/express freight by lunchtime the next day. The package was very well packed and everything secured etc.

I am interested to hear where others usually source their kit.

I buy from my local store, they match any price I can find and I like the safety of going to a store for warranty and the like.

blownhr, granted I would prefer to purchase from a local store also, both to support local vendor and safe guard of service and warranty... But I have not been able to convince many locally to sell for the same prices advertised on these sites

On recommendation from Dave i purchased my 70-200 2.8L from Cameras Direct, now being an actual stocking warehouse they dont usually deal from it, more post, but since they had some in stock they were more then happy for me to come down and purchase one there, very friendly staff and i'd recommend them.

Before Cameras Direct, i'd usually try Ted's Camera Store in the City, but never actually ordered via a site before. Ted's is generally pretty good, if someone say like Photocontinental have something cheaper (rarely) Ted's will match it.
