I've been toying with the idea of jumping on the "gay fashion" bandwagon and getting an iPhone. I currently have an iMate JasJam. I've reflashed my JasJam with a hacked version of Windows Mobile 6.
The main features I use my JasJam for are.
1. Email - sync with exchange server, hotmail, and check gmail. This includes calender appoinments.
2. Use as a 3G broadband modem when I'm at customer sites or in a hotel.
3. Listen to music/mp3s/videos
4. Use remote desktop to RDP back to my PC at home (I only use this occasionally).
I wanted to see if the iPhone could match Windows Mobile 6 on features, espeically the key features I use.
Does anybody know if the new generation iPhone can do the above? (except #3 - cause that's a given).
My main concern is to be able to use the iPhone as a 3G modem. This feature is important to me, and is important to the work I do. I've read that the iPhone cannot be used as a wireless modem, and I've also read that it can be done if you jailbreak the phone. However all of these posts I've read, refer back to the previous generation iPhone. I want to know if the new version can do it.

Hmm...the iPhone is losing points, rapidly.
Looks like the HTC TyTn II is where I'll go next then.

The TyTn II is getting a bit long in the tooth, isnt there a new HTC phone out now with the same features as a TyTn II (less QWERTY keyboard, add touch screen)?
EDIT: Diamond Touch Pro, and it retains the QWERTY:

Whoa whoa whoa hold up...
1) Yes, it will be able to sync to exchange servers and gmail. Hotmail can only be done if you have paid extra to get POP access. This will also be available to 1st gen iPhones once the 2.0 firmware is released.
2) Not confirmed.
3) Yes.
4) No but there is a 3rd party app which can.

Interesting...
Ok..maybe I won't fully get on the anti-iPhone bangwagon now.
Sync with exchange & gmail is what I use most. Hotmail just happens on my Windows Mobile phone because sometimes I use Live Messenger on the phone. But its a bit ghey being on instant chat, on the phone...so I'm not TOO fussed about it.
#2 is still pretty important to me though...cause if I'm not able to get onto the internet when I need to, Jesus kills a kitten.
#4 would be a "nice to have". I use the feature now and then...but if I _had_ to live without it I probably could. And worse comes to worse...(if I could use it as a broadband modem) then I could just RDP from the laptop back to home (via the phone).

Heres a half decent review of the iPhone actually:
http://apcmag.com/unauthorised_first_austr...f_iphone_3g.htmQUOTE
Can the iPhone be used as a modem?
As widely suspected, the iPhone can be paired with a Mac or PC using Bluetooth, but it publishes no Bluetooth services to the PC, so it can't be used as a modem.
This suggests there's no technical impairment to the iPhone being used as a modem for the PC, but Apple hasn't built support for that, presumably on AT&T's request in the US, where plans have unlimited data. Perhaps this functionality will be opened up for customers on data-metered plans (such as the plans in Australia) in the future with the agreement of carriers. After all, if data usage on the plan is metered, the carrier should have no problem with the customer using the phone as a modem.

I'm looking forward to the Sony Ericsson - XPERIA™ X1 as well. Designed by HTC.
Don't forget Walt Mossberg's review.

for the record. the iPhone CAN be used as a 3G modem....
but the problem is that the program has been taken down off the app store in itunes.
(because of AT&T frickin contract conditions)
it MAY come back, but its easy enough to find it around the place as well.
RDP......
