Has everyone heard that in the USA, NHRA have made the decision that top fuelers and Nitro cars are now to race over 1000 feet(previously 1320 feet). This decision has come as a safety precaution due to the Scott Kalitta tragedy. It is going to be interesting to see how this pans out and if it will be adopted here.

I highly doubt that ANDRA will adopt the same policy here. Keep in mind most of the older NHRA strips do not have the same run off areas that we have here because they were built so long ago - vehicle performance has increased, but the tracks haven't.
Since most of our tracks have been built within the last 20 years or so they have ample distance for braking & emergency braking & sand trap. The reason the US tracks aren't following suit is that some of them just don't have the available space to extend the stopping distance. I reckon you'll see them perfecting an arrester hook arrangement like on aircraft carriers which can be remotely activated by track staff.
