Hey all, it's school holidays, and i don't have to work, so I thought i might have a look at the VK and see if i can get it closer to being allowed on the dragstrip again!!

Would anyone be able to help me with a compression test? I want to do a wet and dry test to see if it is the valves or the rings. If it is valves i'll chuck the spare head on it. If it's the rings, the whole spare motor can go in!!

I can't drive the car, so it would be at my place. And i don't have a compression tester.

I'm home all day this week, except for friday. also out tuesday and wednesday night.

Thanks

adam

the thread is pretty sharp.

Do you have the required tools for a compression check.....?

Maybe if you were to hand me some completed assignments for my uni work I could help you along with it.... tongue.gif Oh yeah is your battery in good enough condition to turn the engine over...?

nope, no tools, which is part of the problem!! and assignments, well, it is year 7 and i'm still not passing!!

The engine still starts, after a good spray of hydrocarbons down the carbie. It takes a fair bit of cranking though.

No worries.

In the meantime, i think i have found out why it is whistling and making smoke out the engine bay. THere isn't a secret turbo, but more than likely the manifold bolts need tightening!!

I have a comp tester if you would like to borrow it.

done half a compression test. 155-145-155-140-140-[couldn't be stuffed cos it is too fiddly] from pistons 1-6 on the dry test. just trying to work out how to get some oil on the pistons now.

It's a bit of a variation. dunno.gif
vh-holden
done the wet test on 2-5

dry reading, then wet

2 - 145 - 155
3 - 155 - 170
4 - 140 - 150
5 - 150 - 160
all in lb/in^2

i did the wet test by getting a length of thin tube, then sucking up a bit of oil and blowing it into the spark plug holes.

smile.gif for an old blue motor, compression doesn't seem too bad !
ph34r.gif taking it down the strip? thumbsup.gif cool at least i wont be the slowest car there when i go down
after a drive of my brothers torana - i would like to give my car a blast, now i wonder if i can beat his 11.4 1/4 time?? if you need a hand with older commodores i may be able to help, use to have one & have mucked around with a few.
too bad i didnt know anyone with an older commodore, i just thru away vk injection , spare motor, gear box & diff. ( the injection seems to go ok with a large cam )
vh-holden
aww, don't tell me that. injection is one of my options, and high up the list.

best time so far is 18.79

thumbsup.gif nah wasnt having a go - about the car being slow or anything.
i would be interested in what a early commodore could do
injection large cam, & welded 3.9 or so diff.
My car hasn't been down the strip yet, brothers torana did 11.4 last year, dropped my old 308 into it & i took it down for my first ever meet & i rounded the cam head_wall.gif
had fun thou ! end up doing 13.5 or some thing like that
with the compression test what do you need help with doing it or someone telling you how to do it?

tis all good. i think it's kinda funny that it was the slowest car at the meet.

i was chasing help doing the compression test. i ended up borrowing the compressometer off sikunit and he explained how to do it.

now it's done, do the results look alright?
JET_RB25

ph34r.gif a lazy cyl - check number one if you still have the gauge
. what process are you using to check compression,
all plugs out, winding the motor over with the starter? with the accelerator foot to the floor?
its down a little over the rest - it aint going to run 10's so it wouldnt matter that much, doesn't really help thou
time for a second hand cam or wack the injection on to get it hopping again hsdance.gif
SIKUNIT
Cyl 6 will always have the lowest readings as it gets the hottest.

The figures seem pretty average, not flash but not really bad either, no major drops in size, i wouldnt be too concerned.

Bj your welcome to borrow when i get it back.
