Full Version: Ways Around Integrated Headunits

Hey guys.
Ok, I currently own an 03 Citroen Xsara Vts. I'm not a massive genius when it comes to car audio, but I know abit haha.
I do know that the h/u in this car can be removed. The problem with that though is that I'll lose the steering wheel controls and the other issue is that with the standard h/u, the display for it is actually separate and isn't just used for the h/u but for things such as the trip computer, km to empty, times, speed control alarm and shit like that.
I haven't been successful in finding out if removing the h/u will affect those features, but will try removing the h/u to see if anything happens.

So while looking at headunits, I started to think of ways of using the stock one and being able to connect an amp and external devices etc. I knew about Alpine's orb, but am not prepared to fork out something like 1k for it laugh.gif
That's when I stumbled upon the Rockford Fosgate 3Sixty.1

http://www.rockfordfosgate.com/products/pr..._status=current

So in simple terms this little device will allow me to plug the speaker cables from the stock h/u into it and then it will then give me the freedom to use an amp meaning I can use my sub, and run my front components through the amp as well.

My question is:
Is this the only device around that will do the job it says it does, or are there other variants on the market? Are they a decent piece of hardware?
Also I live in Toowoomba, and usually shit is expensive here, so where would be the place in Brisbane that I could enquire or purchase one of these?

I'm also interested in this more then replacing the h/u now cause the next car I will be getting down the track has a full oem system, and something like this would probably be ideal.
And yes I have done a tiny bit of research into the 3Sixty for those google fanatics, just wanted to know if any audio buffs here knew anything about it or recommend it etc.

Cheers, Lyndon smile.gif

Ps - the gear I currently have and would be using if anyone wanted/need to know is:
Infinity 10" 250wrms Sub
Option Audio 600wrms 4Ch amp
MTX Thunder 6" Component Speakers

Audio Control LC6

or even a normal High Level convertor.

is that Option Audio amp the SMC160? 4x160rms or bridged to 2x350rms?

Thanks, I looked up the LC6, and from what I can find it is now discontinued. Would there be anywhere I can get one though? I'll also look for some other High Level Converters.

The amp is the OAC160. It's a 4/3/2 Ch 600WRMS Class A-B Amplifier. So I'll have it at 3ch, 1 bridged for sub and other 2 for the front components. That would be correct right?

yeah, OAC160 is the new code for the SMC160 - still the same amp though

front 2 channels for front speakers (left and right)
bridge rear channels for sub duties - make sure its a 4ohm load - this amp DOES NOT LIKE 2ohm LOADS it will get VERY hot (burn your hand hot) and go into protection.

dual 2ohm subs or single 4ohm subs are perfect for it.

If you've got the cash, JL Cleansweep. It will do almost anything you could possibly want, and then a bit more tongue.gif
